Just an idea for the next time developers are looking for an upgrade to the web package; sites like Kiva heavily encourage the use of "Groups" that allows "Kiva Evangelicals" to find, list and support charitable endeavors of interest to like-minded members, and "Kiva Environmentalists", etc.
I recognise Zidisha has a smaller base, but think it would be an easy work-around if lenders could each create a single list (if they wanted) with a relevant title, and those lists that meet criteria are then listed in a small sidebar on "Browse Projects". This would be complementary but not overlapping with the categorisation by the site admins of "Educational" versus "Technology" loans currently open.
For example, so there could be a "List of Muslim borrowers" or "List of ten most prolific borrowers", or "List of borrowers who mention raising young children", etc.
It wouldn't be falling back on Zidisha for categorising people that way, it's just user-created lists (maximum one per user to limit spam) similar to IMDB or any other site allows. ("Top Fifty Movies Where the Mother Has Mental Illness", "Twelve shows that feature positive portrayals of people from Alabama", whatever). Some lenders might be favouring those named Yusuf, Abubaker, Ali and Khadije, while other lenders prefer to focus on Pauls, Emmanuels and Dorcas, and still other lenders give blindly without caring about the backgrounds - all approaches should be welcomed.
Basically, if a Muslim/Christian/Enviromentalist/Vegan/LGBT joins the site as a lender and asks how to find Muslims/Christians/Enviromentalists/Vegans/LGBTs to sponsor with loans...there should be a link I send him that allows him to "Follow" all the borrowers/projects some lender has listed in the past as being in that demographic. But right now there is no such link, so I have to tell him "Oh, you have to click five hundred times on different profiles over the next three months to find them"...that's not going to encourage him to get active in the community.
Clicking over to the list would then show two columns, one with a linked name of each borrower who the lender noted on the list, and then another showing any active projects/loans from those borrowers.
I could possibly make some classic MS Paint mock-ups to demonstrate what I'm suggesting if it's not otherwise clear.
Idea #2: A forum entitled "Website Suggestions" just for web development ideas would mean that threads like these wouldn't be competing against threads unrelated to website design - might be a wise investment of ten minutes :)
Edit: And Idea #3 "e-mails that state 'Dear Makepeace-Boyle Family, the Makepeace-Boyle Family has replied to your comment...' are obviously unnecessary when both usernames are the same" could also go in that Idea #2 sub-forum ;)
