About Me

My name is Consilatah Shirley Siro, from Alupe village ,Teso South, Busia county, western Kenya. I attended the Nangina girls secondary school and later joined Bumbe TTI where I followed a certificate course in secretarial and computer. I thereafter got a job as a cashier in a supermarket.

My income as a cashier is very meager and hardly sustains my needs, I therefore decided in January of this year, 2014, to venture into commercial farming and started with 30 indigenous chicken just in my house. I used to live with them in the same house until when I started supplying my employer with fertilized eggs, soon the demand for my products soared and I could not meet the demand as I wished any longer. In May, from my sales I decided to take the business seriously and put up a poultry house for my chicken. I now own 100 chicken but I want to expand the venture to 1000 chicken.

I am planning to resign from my job as a cashier to focus on my business, however the major hurdle is finances and hopefully Zidisha will help compliment my finance mobilization.

During my free time I like visiting established poultry farmers, swimming, making friends and be on social media.

I would like to thank Zidisha founders for this kind gesture and for having vulnerable groups at heart and to the Zidisha lenders please be honest and service your loans for someone else will need it in future.

My Business

My major source of income is poultry farming, I have 100 indigenous chickens. I sell chicks (less than a month old) and eggs to generate revenue for my business and myself.

My clients include individuals, supermarkets and breeders who buy my eggs for breeding purposes. My products are fairly priced and that gives me a competitive edge against my competitors. The major risk and uncertainties facing my business is theft and diseases, however I am putting up security measures to minimize this vice and as to diseases I am vaccinating my chicken against all prevalent diseases in my county.

My expenses per month are $150 to cater for feeds, security and vaccines, my revenue from eggs and chicks sales is $280 a month, I make $130 in profit. I also earn $80 from my employment job as a cashier and I expect to use my profit and salary to service my loan.

Loan Proposal

I am an upcoming commercial poultry farmer seeking for funds to expand my poultry farm.

I will use the funds to add poultry to my farm, $100 to buy 100 two weeks old chicks and $50 to buy feeds. This will be a timely investment as we are nearing December when the birds prices are always high due to high demand.

I was unable to raise 100% of the loan with my first application, which unfortunately expired. I am, however, very optimistic that I will succeed this time round. I would like to thank all Zidisha lenders in advance for helping me achieve my goal, I count on you! Thank you.

My Business

I am a commercial poultry farmer.I keep local poultry both for meat and eggs.
I always feed my poultry on locally available feeds as well as commercial feeds to foster faster growth and make them look admirable to buyers. This always give me a competitive edge against my competitors.
The demand for my poultry and eggs has grown rapidly courtesy of expanding nearby Busia town and newly established University college in my village. Therefore the demand far outweighs the supply and in this regard I am planning to expand my poultry farm.
The major hurdle my business faces is lack of finances to expand my firm.I also face the risk of diseases though i always vaccinate my poultry on time to ensure i don't loose them to diseases.
I always spend $200 on monthly basis for feeds,I make sales of an average $650 every month.I make a profit of $450 in month thanks to my first and second loan.my revenues increased by 300%
I using my revenues for business expansion, donation to an orphanage paying school fees for Laura who passed well and had no one to take her to school and saving for my own degree course in september.
