I am a single woman and a mother of a 9 year-old girl. I am from a polygamous family of which I am the second oldest child. Our family consisted of 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls. I began primary school at age 7 at “Future” School, where, in 1999, I obtained my primary studies certificate. I went on for further schooling until about age 13. I was raised in the city of Toumoudi, Ivory Coast. I, as well as my family, have lived in Banfora, Burkina Faso, for more than 10 years now. I am now a sandwich vender in Banfora.

My Business

At the moment, I have a small stall where I sell sandwiches. It’s honest work and thanks to this I am able to take care of the small needs that I have. I have been in this business for 5 years now. Early in the morning, the Teria Bakery delivers bread to me. In general I usually buy 70 rounds of bread. Sometimes, however, I need to increase this over the course of the day, if I see that there are a lot of customers. It’s important to recognize that this business is a very profitable one that also calls for hygiene. I wake up early –around 4 in the morning-- in order to begin preparing for the day. I do things such as cut up onions and tomatoes and I peel and de-seed avocados and put them onto clean plates. Beginning at 6 in the morning, I start up the fire and start grilling shish-kebabs. Clients begin arriving around 6.30. I earn about 2.500 to 3.500 francs each day and what I make allows me to take care of my needs and those of my daughter.

Merci
