About Me

I am the forth born in the family of seven aging seven years old. I was born in the Eastern parts of Kenya, the areas of Kenya that receive inadequate rainfall, thereby forcing the residents to allocate to areas which receive rainfall annually. Being a hardworking of four, I decided to move to coastal to look for a better earning work that can sustain my children. It’s in the year 2006 when I moved to Coast and started selling second hand clothes. I managed my business well and brought up my four children. Most of them by then wherein high school. In the year 2009, I decided to add investment and I started a Curio Shop in the same Coastal area. By then, my first born had joined the university; I had to tighten the belt as a mother to make sure that my children get the necessary education they needed.
In the first year up to the third year paying the school fees went on well, but from 2012 up to now the business has been doing poorly due to inadequate capital to boost the business.
I am hoping that from Zidisha, my business will grow because I am planning to add more investments through the financing of Zidisha and eradicating poverty in my family and even to the community at large through Zidisha Microfinance.
Thank you in advance Zidisha for bringing this chance we have been wishing for years passed.

My Business

My business started in the year 2009 after I had taken my son to university. I felt the urge to add my income because of the rate of expenses that had risen up. It was also when I went around the coastal areas and done my analyst.
I found the area had a lot of tourists, from that I saw them having come with some problems or issues of getting some cultural ornaments in the area. It is then I decided to bridge that gap, instead of them going to Maasai Market in Nairobi, I brought those goods around to make sure they get them easily without moving/ travelling.
It is then when I started earning a lot from my Curio Shop because most tourists preferred my shop because most tourists preferred my shop because I sold quality goods with reasonable prices and the layout of my shop attracted customers and the language I used to make sure my customers feel well served.
I make a lot of profit in fact a double profit because for example when I buy a lion at Kshs. 1800; I can sell it at Kshs. 5000 thereby making a double profit. Sometimes my business faces some challenges when at low seasons and inadequate capital to fund my business. As a single mother, I strain much to raise school fees for my son who is in his fourth year in University, because I am the only bread winner.
I also incur some expenses like house rent of Kshs. 4500 and Kshs. 6000 for food per month. The total cost being Kshs. 10500 and when I subtract this from my income I remain with around Kshs. 30000 and pay school fees at around Kshs. 18000. I remain with around Kshs. 12000 as my salary.
It is my belief that from my stock and additional from Zidisha I will be making good returns thereby getting high salary and in that correcting my living standards making more investments that I am planning when the Zidisha loan goes successfully. Thanks Zidisha for your concern and care. Thanks in advance.
