About Me

My name is James Kanyi, I was born in Nyeri county around Mount Kenya region. I come from a family of eight and I am the second born. My parents are small scale farmers and they struggled a lot to raise the family. I endured acute hardships while growing up but somehow made it to adulthood with modest education which I acquired in both primary and secondary schools.

I later relocated to Mombasa city, about 400 miles from home to look for greener pastures. I started doing casual jobs and with serious savings, I acquired a motorbike that I used as a taxi. I have been in this business for about 10 years now. I support my family of one wife and two children with the money I make from this business.

I am a social person and I like making new friends wherever I go.

My Business

I am in taxi business I normally transport people and light goods from town to their estates. I charge a fee of between $2 to $7 per trip depending on the distance. I make about $250 per month and I use this money for my family’s (one wife and 2 young children) upkeep.

The business is quite rewarding but with some challenges key among them lack of finances to maintain the bike.
I also experience harassment from the police who accuse bike riders from many types of traffic offenses.

Loan Proposal

If given this money, I am going to use it to do bodywork for my tuk tuk (three wheeler) which is long overdue. By coincidence, this will cost me about $100 which is the amount that I have applied for.

Dear lenders, spoke to James today and he told me that he lost a close relative. He promised to resume making payments in a week's time. Thank you.

I have made a difficult decision to reduce my repayments to KES 200 per week since my machine broke down a few weeks ago. This has seriously affected my cash flow but I am working very hard to put it back on the road. I hope to increase this amount as soon as possible.

Dear lenders, I spoke to James yesterday and he promised to make his overdue payment this week or early next week. He has been taking care of a sick relative hence the delayed payment.

I have just cleared the loan that I got last year. I am impressed by your friendly terms since I reduced my payments when my business went down. This is always unacceptable to other lenders and for that I will forever be grateful to Zidisha and the lenders.

I am now approaching the end of my first loan. I am glad I used it for the intended purpose and I am now looking forward to posting another as soon as I clear the current one. I believe with your support the sky is the limit. Thank you so much dear lenders for your trust and generous contributions.

Dear all, the year has started with financial challenges. The priority of most people at the moment is to take their children back to school and this has resulted to other sectors like mine to suffer. I have decided to reschedule my payments to KES 200 and I hope to revert to my old rate after recovering from this downturn hopefully in the month of February. Thank you for your support and understanding.
