About Me

My name is Rahab Wambui. I went to Karuri Primary School in Kikuyu and proceeded to Gateshell High School in Nairobi. I did not perform very well in my form four examination, and the poor performance called for hatred and rejection by my parents. They rejected me because I couldn't make to continue with my studies at the university.

This rejection made me suffer psychologically and emotionally, and I decided to abuse drugs as a temporary satisfaction of my problems. Then I met my primary school classmate, who served as a turning point in my life. She gave me a new direction towards life and made me see life in a positive way. She offered me employment, and thus I could now sustain myself. She also encouraged me to join Kikuyu Women Self Help Group, where I can save with them and access loans from them at a pocket-friendly interest. I joined the group and saved with them for 6 months. I then qualified to access a loan and I was given 2,000 US dollars as my first loan.

I used the money to start selling alcohol to people -- that is, wines and spirits. I invested the loan given by the self-help group into this business. All this was made possible by my former classmate, who gave me a new direction of life.

My Business

I offer alcohol (wines and spirit) to the locals around Kikuyu area. The goods that I offer to people are in very high demand because the majority of individuals around our place drink alcohol and thus the demand for the product is quite high.

I chose this kind of business because I worked in my friend's wines and spirits joint and gained some experience in selling alcohol and also discovered where I can easily access the alcohol. I also saw a loophole in Kikuyu, because there were only two alcohol joints, and thus I thought opening another one would greatly attract more customers.

I used 1,000 US dollars buying different types of liquors, 200 US dollars paying rent for five months, and 300 US dollars to secure a license for operating the premise. I used 200 US dollars to furnish the premise, I paid the women's self-help group the first loan installments of 20 US dollars, and I banked the remaining 180 US dollar for future demands.

I am planning to use the profits gained to reinvest and expand my premise. Also I am planning to open a different joint in another area just around Kikuyu town.

Loan Proposal

Granted the loan that is 50 US dollars, I will use 20 US dollars to pay my monthly loan due to the Kikuyu Women's Self-Help Group, and use the remaining 30 US dollars (with an addition of my personal savings of 100 US dollars) to add more stock to my premises.

This will help me on personal level by reducing my loan burden, help me generate more income from the additional stock, and help other women access the loan that I am now enjoying.

I expect to make huge profits of 150 US dollars in a day.
