About Me

I am Mararo Daniel, a Kenyan citizen. I am 28 years old. I was born in a family of four, and I am the third born. My parents were farmers. I am married with one kid. I come from a village where people have not been civilized. People are still living in traditions.

It is through my parents that I am now who I am. They encouraged us to plant trees when we were young. From that, I was able to get capital with which I started the business.

I first thought of what I could do to help sustain myself and my family. It wasn't until a friend gave me an idea of starting a business of selling timbers that I went ahead and searched for the market. I asked my friend, who had a power saw, to help me make timber and I would pay him after selling them. When they were ready, the buyer came and collected them by himself.

With the little money he gave me, I went to Kisii town and got a small plot for two years and built a temporary store. I then went again and cut 6 trees and made timbers. I transported them to my timber yard. I now can buy trees and make timbers for myself.

My dream is one day to buy my own plot, build a big timber yard, and have my own pickup.

My Business

I own a small timber yard. I buy trees from farmers and hire someone with a power saw to make me timbers. I can sometimes buy ready timbers and transport them to my timber yard.

It is through a friend that I decided to start that kind of business. It wasn't until I started that I realized that timbers have high demand. Timbers have many uses. One, they can make furniture. They can also be used in building and have so many other uses.

From that small business, I can sell up to $600 in a month. From that, I make a profit of $150 a month. I use my profit to pay rent ($40). The rest I use to feed my family.

Loan Proposal

First I would like to thank you for the support you gave me to buy anew power saw. It has helped me greatly. Now am planning to buy more trees in order to transport enough timbers to my Yard. This will help me cut the cost of transporting timbers from the farm to the timberyard. Transporting few timbers timbers is slightly expensive since the cost of hiring a lorry remains constant whether it is full or half-full.

Daniel has used Zidisha long enough to know how important repayment is, yet he borrowed $534.00 over a year ago and has not made a single repayment towards this amount. I would not trust him with another loan.

This person doesn’t repay his loan and doesn’t communicate at all.

Mararo is exactly the type of borrower Zidisha was made for. He is looking for opportunities and adapting his business plans as needed to seek success. I reccommend lending to him.
