About Me

My name is Jane Wangui, born and raised in Nakuru town in the Rift Valley region of Kenya. I was born in a family of 5 and I am the third born. My parents are farmers who practised food farming. The food was mainly for feeding the family and they would sell the surplus to meet other family needs.

I went to school up to secondary school level and then joined a college where I took a course in beauty and hair care. I later relocated to Mombasa to live with my sister. This is where I started a business dealing with sale of second hand clothes. This is what I am still doing and this business supports my 2 children.

My Business

I deal with retailing second hand clothes in an open air market. I normally get the clothes from importers and then retail. I am surrounded by working people and these are my main clients. I make between $120 and $200 per month which I use to support my family.

I intend to open a stall in near future so that I can direct my clients to a permanent place as opposed to what I am doing right now. It is my hope that by benefitting from Zidisha loans, I will be able to achieve my dream soon.

Loan Proposal

If given this money, I will use it to buy a bale of second hand clothes so as to boost my inventory. This business demands that I keep replenishing my stock so as to keep up with clients’ demand. One needs to have a wide variety of clothes so as to satisfy different tastes of the clients.

A bale of clothes costs about $150 and I will top up this money with my own savings that I have made over time. This will make my work more exciting and attract more customers to my business and definitely increase my income.
