About Me

I am called lilian waithera njenga.We are four in my family I have two sisters and one brother,i was born second in my family.i studied at karunga primary school and loreto Kiambu Girls high school,I got grade C+.My Dad passed on when in form four and things changed drastically as he was the only bread winner.Through support of family friends and bursary I was able to go to study at Kenya institute of management but I was unable to continue to diploma 3 and 4 due to lack of funds and I decided to get into business.my plan is one day I will go back and finish my course but for now I want my salon to do really well.My aunt my dads sister is the one who assisted me and took me to her friends salon in buruburu Nairobi.i came to love working with hair and from the money I earned as a commission I am now on my own .i went to umoja estate where the rent is cheaper and opened my own salon.By God’s favour the road construction has opened up where the building am in is and its no longer hidden as it was when I first moved here
In my land we love Ugali this is hardened porridge we make it from maize flour. We take it with a stew of traditional greens called mabaki or sukuma wiki(kales)or cabbage.also we have another food called Githeri it’s a mixture of maize and beans boiled together.i want to have a good life stable financially and also ensure my childrens education is smooth.i love socializing and travelling and watching law drama programmes

My Business

My business is a salon.I started off with just a big mirror and a seat with a few posters on the wall and since I was new I didn’t have many customers and only offered blow drying and plaiting.With time I got more and more custumers especially during back to school I had so many girls coming for the above services and as time went by I introduced others such as weaves and braids and washing which now attracted much older ladies.today I have remodified the room and even stock the hair pieces and hair treatments,shampoos.i have one lady who comes to my salon as an assistant cum apprentice with her am able to attend to two customers or if it is plaiting we do it together finishing for the customer quickly.my arrangement with her is a commission on what we make in a day.i have different services such as full blowdry at 2$ and where one has washed the hair at 1.50$,plaiting depends on the style basic being 3$ to more complex like twist 16$.i also do weaves5$-7$ and human hair at14$ also stock a few hair accessories such as bands the hairgels etcin a good day can make30$-45$but on a slow day 15$ my expenses include fare , paying my assistant city council licences and electricity bills,on average its8$profit per day but very grateful for this new road am seeing new people coming to my salon as we are no longer in the backstreet.I want to buy a hair flat iron.this will greatly help me in styling the clients hair.T here are this clients who just their hair styled and do not really want to wait that’s why iwant the flat iron I will charge this service at3$-2.50$ perclient.This extra service will make more clients come to my salon.The profits I make I have bought myself furniture pay rent assist my my mother in paying my brothers school fee.i also buy myself a dvd player for when im in the house I watch series
