About Me

My name is Erick Kakai,I was born in Busia county in a family of 12 and raised with my mother, after my father passed on while I was in primary school.Since my mother was jobless and had no steady source of income ,I had to drop out of school at form two.
After living school,I did casual jobs as farm hand in farms in my village to earn living and take care of my family.I save some $40 to buy seeds and farmyard manure from a neighbor and planted 0.25acre of traditional African vegetables, from my first harvest i knew I was in business.I earned 10times what i used to earn.I stopped working for people and fully engaged myself in horticulture farming.
I have 3 children, the first born want to be a nurse ,the second one want to be a farmer just like me while my last born is too young.
I like watching soccer during my free time.

My Business

My farm is a diversified horticultural farm producing all types of traditional African vegetables as well as exotic vegetables. I supply my clients with fresh ,healthy and high quality vegetables.
This goods and services are always on high demand because of the high population ,climatic change that has made rain fed agriculture total unreliable.
My monthly cost ranges from$10-$100 depending on the season,i tend to spend much during dry seasons because of irrigation.my monthly revenues ranges from $200-$300 .
I use my profit to pay kids for my siblings so that they can complete their education,I also take care of my elderly mother.

Loan Proposal

My dream has always been having a diversified big farm. With Zidisha I can say it is a dream come true. Saving money to buy a dairy cow has been hectic since a lot of issues pop in and forces you to use the savings ,but with zidisha I will now buy the cow and pay slowly as I watch the heifer grows.
I am therefore requesting for a loan to facilitate the purchase of a heifer at $400. From the loan I will be able to add $100 from my savings to get the cow, since I have already identified a good heifer from my neighbors place.
Happy and prosperous 2015. Live long zidisha
