About Me

I am a second born in a family of two. I was born and grew up in rural Machakos. Due to financial constraints, I was unable to continue my education past primary level. I started doing menial jobs to sustain myself but after about 6 months, I decided to move to Nairobi in search of more opportunities. I failed to land any employment and decided to start carrying luggage in Nairobi CBD after a childhood friend told me that I could earn sustainable income from that activity. Initially, I carried luggage manually for businesspeople in Muthurwa market but I now borrow a handcart to easen my burden. I now have a good client base and I intend to buy my own handcart and a few more that I could hire out to boost my income. In future, I intend to 'retire' from active luggage carrying so as to venture into another line of business.

My Business

My business is luggage-carrying using a handcart. I have loyal clients, mainly businesspeople, who operate from the Muthurwa market. I serve these clients twice a day- early morning when they need their products delivered from the store and late in the evening when they need to return their stock to the store. During the day, I look for jobs mainly from passengers who alight with luggage from public transport vehicles. These passengers are mostly those from rural areas who arrive in the city loaded with luggage they are unable to carry by themselves.
I a typical day, I make $10 in profits. I have no significant business costs as currently, the county government does not require us to pay taxes. I use my profits to sustain myself and I occasionally send some money to my parents at home.

Loan Proposal

Dear Lenders,
I humbly seek your support for my loan fundraiser. I intend to use the loan to buy my own handcart. This will enable me boost my earnings as it will enable me save the money I spend on hiring one. My profits will increase by a minimum of $4(the money I spend on hiring per day). I will also have the chance to work more hours with no restrictions and this will also boost my income. Going forward, I also intend to purchase more handcarts that I will hire out and this will significantly boost my income as well as create employment.
After buying my own handcart, I should be able to comfortably repay the loan and hopefully qualify for more credit to continue expanding my business. Your kind support will be sincerely appreciated.
