My name is Joan Wanjiku I was born as the second born of Wanjiru family in the rural area of kinangop where I was born and raised.in the year 2010 I came to nairobi to search for greener pastures where I lived with my elder sister. Life was hard and getting a job was proving to be futile...I landed a job at a bakery where i worked for 9hours and paid 80$ a month....i couldnt cope up with that so i quit the job. I got employed as a supermarket attendant wprking for 12hours and it paid 200$.The job was better since i could pay my bills i worked till 2014 where i got a job as a sports betting cashier. Being paid 450$.up to now i still work there.
I started farming from my savings in 2016 where I started with jus 1/8 of an acre which I planted cabbages and got a return of 400$.I reinvested the cash and added extra 200$ in a 1 acre farm but they were attacked by pest and only got 300$.I nearly lost hope but my family helped me with 600$ and a loan of 200$i planted on 2acres.I was lucky and the return was 1800$ and since then I researched and became large scale today I plant 6acres.The operation cost of farming the cabbages is roughly 2000$ and it can give a return of between 3000$ and 6000$ on low and high market prices respectively
