Barnabas Wesonga
Busia, Kenya
11% repaid
Hi Zidisha team! May I take this opportunity to thank you for the loans I have received so far from Zidisha. They have made my life change for the better. My name is Barnabas Mubasu Wesonga. I am the second born in a family of six. I live in Airstrip estate, which is found in Busia town along Busia-Kisumu Highway. I have changed my work, so currently I work as a ward administrator for Marachi Central Ward in Busia County. I worked hard during my school days, and currently I hold a degree: a Bachelor of Arts (Communication and Media Technology) with Information Technology from Maseno University.
I operate a classic barber shop and a hardware store. I started my businesses because I wanted to make an extra coin as well as create employment opportunities for the youth that I have employed in my businesses. I live in a country where everyone is struggling to make ends meet in life. I want to make sure I invest for my grandchildren so that they don't struggle much in life. I have an interest in helping deprived, excluded and vulnerable children and youth, so I take part in sensitizing the youth to avoid drug abuse and live responsibly.
Currently, I own a classic barbershop and a hardware store. The barbershop is in high demand because everybody wants to look smart and beautiful. For the hardware store, Busia County is rapidly developing, creating a high demand for building materials. I decided to be part of the solution by providing affordable construction materials as we aim at achieving the goals set for Vision 2030. My major expenses include rent for the businesses, electricity bills, licenses and wages for my casual employees. My revenues are profit and the money paid for the services received. I use my profit to pay school fees for my brother and daughter, pay rent for the businesses, purchase more stock, and support my parents and the community.
When given the loan, I will use it to buy cement, nails and iron sheets for my hardware business.
- A bag of Simba cement goes for USD $6.50. I will be able to add 50 bags of cement at USD $320.
- A 50kg bag of nails is purchased at USD $45. I will add 5 bags of nails at USD $225.
- One iron sheet costs USD $8. I will add 30 of them at USD $240.
The rest of the money will be used to transport the commodities to my store. These items will help me get more profit because they are fast-moving goods. My profit will increase by USD $100 per month.
