About Me

My name is Samuel . I work and live in Kenya.I grew up and was educated in rural Kenya. We are 5 in our family. My parents are peasant farmers as such we grew up with lots of challenges. After high school i joined an accounting college where i learnt book keeping and accounting practices.I used to work on peoples farms to raise my college fees.Unfortunately i didn't complete the course for lack of school fees. After dropping out of college i got employed at a local grocery store where i learnt the art of running the business through on job training. Due to covid19 pandemic the business was shut down and i had to look for a way to fend for my family.I thus started my own small grocery though with a lot of financial challenges until i came across Zidisha. So far Zidisha is my sole financial partner. My dream is to grow this business to the point of being a wholesaler and the go to supplier of cereals and groceries in our area. I have 2 children and they all dream of becoming business persons. My hobby is travelling and meeting new people.

My Business

I run a small cereals and grocery shop.In my business i offer vegetables, fruits, flours and cereals. I chose this business because almost every household in our area uses these items on a daily basis. The business generates revenue through the sales of these items. The typical costs include costs of purchase, milling costs for flours and rent.I use the profits i generate for my family's daily upkeep and fees for my children.I also re-invest part of the profit to grow the business as i look forward to adding more income generating avenues

Project Proposal

I plan to buy and stock cereals as well as mill grains to get flour for the grocery shop. In our area there is a high demand for rice, beans and porridge flours. Several customers have been asking me for these items and i would like to buy and stock the same. Especially now that the schools are closed, the market is ripe.

Previously i have received funding twice which i have successfully repaid. These funds have gone into purchase of vegetables and fruits for my shop. The funds have assisted me in increasing the volume of stock and adding additional commodities and thus widening my customer base. My earning have seen a steady growth which currently is at 30%.I am re-investing part of these earnings into the business and also saving to buy gifts for my children during Christmas as well as saving for their school fees for the coming year.
