Fully orphaned at the age of 13 years at class seven, I was left to take care of my 3 siblings being the oldest. I went through severe suffering that words alone can not adequately explain. I had to drop out of school and work abnormally hard to provide even one meal for my family, clothe, medically treat and at the same time keep them in a local school. Then Seventh Day Adventist Church came for my help. They donated clothes and food to us then took me back to school. Today, am a second year University of Nairobi Journalism student and at the same time a director of an orphan daycare.
What I went through always came back to torture me whenever I saw any child headed family until with the help of some friends, I established Precious Hope Centre which educate, clothe, treat and shelter orphaned and venerable children at a very low fee for some pupils and some absolutely free depending on the magnitude of the need, academic ability, gender balance and general social background.
We buy basic necessities like books, files, pens, uniforms, shoes, socks, food, fruits and leave them with the school headmistress and other volunteer staff members to sell them to to those who can buy them or give others to those who we fully support. The local community members also buy from us and as stock goes down on any item, we replenish it. the profit we get is either used for more purchases of goods or help those who need our full support in clothing and medication. Most of our staff including teachers are volunteers and the few who get small payments also depend on our collections and sales. If I qualify to get this loan, I will be able to buy shoes and socks which have got increased demand and we don't have enough cash to maintain the stock.
when I get this loan, I will be able to buy exercise books worth around 15dollars, pens around 10dollars and food worth 20 dollars. The stationery will be able to fetch a profit of around 9dollars and the foodstuffs can fetch a profit of around 10 dollars. The profit will help clothe, treat, feed or shelter the fully need orphans, give some little support to our volunteers and the little remainder (if any) will be ploughed back to the business. To me the sight of a satisfied orphan is just everything to me and if the business can grow to an extent that can give them a fully comfortable life, them I'll enter the world records of the happiest man in the world.
