About Me

I was brought up in Nyahururu in Laikipia county and my childhood was very simple. Having grown in the up country I was brought up in farming and keeping of animals as part of daily life which we would then use for household use or sell when necessary for income for school fee and medication and others. I am a second born in a family of three and the only girl.
I was brought up in a very humble back ground and paying school fee was a problem thus I was not able to go through college because of that. I decided to leave the village to come to Nairobi to look for some form of employment so that I could be able to pay for my college tuition and I have been able to save up some little and start my college education. I am currently doing a diploma in hospitality part time as I work as I work at my small food store which I opened and I am managing to pay my rent and buy food and also save some little to be able to finish my school.
I started my business because of the need that I saw for it, where I live is a very busy market where there is also a slaughter house and food market which operates from 5am till 6pm and there are a lot of people selling and buying and also the residents surrounding the area. After working for a few months I decided and saving up I decided to be my own boss and also create some employment by opening up a food store/cafe.
What I love about where I live is that its a well mixed society where there are people of all tribes and background and everyone lives well in harmony. One of my hobbies is spending time with family and friends as well as going dancing once in a while to unwind after a weeks rush.

My Business

I provide food services for the area I have my business in and this is important because there is a very big population of people who come from all over Nairobi to buy meat at the slaughter house which is one of the main slaughter houses in Nairobi. Having said this there is a huge demand for the services that I offer to these people and also the surrounding community and the people who come to sell at the market and this is why I chose this business because I realized as much as there were other people already doing it the market was not yet satisfied because of the huge demand. Also the availability of the food to cook is also another factor since I don't have to go long distances to look for things to cook.
The costs are mainly for charcoal, buying of the ingredients to be cooked, rent of the premises, electricity and also labor for the workers who help me since I have two who run the place when I am there and when I have gone to class.
The profits that I get from the business I use to pay the rent of the premises and my small house and also to pay the workers and elecricity and also improve on my business. I also save some little in my account and also in my chama where we make contributions weekly. Once in a while I send some little money to my mother back home to assist with the needs back there.

Loan Proposal

I am doing great with my tuition and i have learnt so much that has helped me get other business ideas. In this regard I am requesting for another loan for chicken farming as chicken is a commodity that is also in very high demand especially from the thousands of fast foods in our town and also from the homes where i have my business.
I am now requesting for funding for the feeds, vitamins and vaccines where the whole project costs $850 and so far I have been able to raise $505. The amount I raised covered the construction of the chicken house $141 and three weeks of feeds $141 as well as purchase of the chicks which was at $0.7 each. The vaccines required are three with each costing $6 thus I need $18 for the three vaccines. Also I need chicken feed worth $47 a bag and so far I have for three weeks and need for four more weeks as the total weeks it takes for the chicks to mature is 7 weeks thus I will need $188. There is also the chicken vitamins that are required for the whole time which costs about $30 and other costs like labor and water and electricity as these are broiler chicken and require a lot of warms for them to grow well. Labor will cost $50 and the other costs estimate at about $24 as well as slaughtering costs which is about $35.
This cost goes for a total of 300 chicks which I have kept and the benefit is that I will be able to increase the income for my farm helper as they will have more work and thus also raise their living standard. Secondly I will be able to meet part of the demand in the market for chicken supply and increase my income by another 15%. This increase will help me to improve the living standards of me and my family and it will also give me peace of mind because I will now have several sources of income and I will not have to worry so much about expenses and paying my loan. Part of my proceeds will go towards contributing to children's homes.
I hope that Zidisha lending community will once again enable me to embark on this project as they did with the tuition fee and I promise to be committed as ever in my projects so that I can repay on time as in the past and be able to even do greater things through their assistance. I am also requesting this because I cannot currently meet the cost single handedly.
