My name is Lawrence Opondo Mulasse and a resident of Royal Girls Estate in Barnabas Estate that is off Nakuru -Nairobi highway.l am the last born in our family of five members and my brothers and sisters have been employed in various companies here in Nakuru and some in Kisumu.l graduated one year ago from Egerton University here in Njoro Nakuru with a degree of Masters of Business Administration. I also attained an undergraduate degree in Business Management from Makerere University. I have a diploma in Eglish Literature from Kenyatta University. Literature has been studied by approximately 45 percent of all undergraduates at Kenyatta. l decided to apply for a literature teacher at Shiners Girls High School since I enjoy learning and teaching the subject. l was later employed to serve the school and due to my good performance the school has really improved. Many classes focus on literature written in English, though we offer many others covering works in translation from antiquity to yesterday. I also started a natural poultry project due to high market demand so as to earn an extra coin.Agriculture employs over 80% of the Kenyan workforce. However, developing a stable income through it is often hurt that is by lack of inexpensive inputs. l use my earnings to support my family and my siblings who are still in college.
Chickens have a big advantage to humans as they are a renewable resource. Many have their initial grant to meet their immediate needs for nutrition, income and have been able to use it to accumulate more resources. It is one of my best projects that i believe to be sustainable.I have managed to use the income from my poultry holdings to invest more in my education. The live span of a chicken is about 10 to 15 years.I try and keep them safe from their animal enemies like hawks, bobcats, snakes, stunks, owls, raccoons, foxes and others. Most chickens will stop laying eggs when the weather is cold and they will start laying when it gets warmer again. My hens lays an average of 300 eggs per year. They later on sit on their eggs to keep them warm so that they will hatch into chicks. A fertilized egg starts developing into a chicken when its temperature reaches 86 degrees Fahrenheit. A chick takes 21 days to hatch.Poultry provides humans with companionship, food and fiber in the form of eggs, meat and feathers.I do both production of broilers and egg producing birds. With the support from Zidisha team I would love to satisfy my village since poultry products are in demand around us.I have also started to offer some classes like incubation and embryology project for beginners.
