My name is Grace Mugo, married with two children. I was born in Nakuru county where I went through primary and secondary levels. After my O levels I had so much passion in dressmaking. Although we did it as one of the subjects in primary and secondary level, it was not as detailed as one can do it. That is why I decided to go to a dressmaking college where I attained my certificate.
I have since been employed to make school uniforms, though I also have a small shop where I have hired someone to it for me as I look forward to be in full control after I have settled some few items.
The reason why I started my own business is that I could not meet all my financial needs through my monthly salary I could get from the employment.
My business as I have touched above involves dressmaking, and school uniforms. I buy materials from Nakuru town in big rolls instead of buying pieces and that is my business secret because I make profits out of the material at the same time the ready item. Although I have employed 1 person to it for me, I find it necessary as I find way of getting 1 or 2 sawing machines to boost my business. I have already invested about KSH. 100,000 for the last year 2014, paid rent of ksh. 3,000 per month, salary of 4,000 per month and the rest has been used for buying of materials and other necessities. At the end of last year I had made a profit of Ksh. 30,000 less all the expenses. Godwilling this year I anticipate to fully equip my business and move into it. The profit I made will be used to grow this business and even have classes for the learners, that is my vision.
I did not encounter any problem concerning the customers because they have known me for more than 6 years in the profession and they trust my work.
I will use the loan to buy 1 sawing machine which costs Ksh. 9,800 (Singer) type. I will just top up whatever I have received so as to acquire one. By the end of this year I will at least be having two new machines plus the 1 I already have to add up to 3 machines. This will greatly improve my business thrice. Whatever returns I get I will use it to reinvest until when now I will be stable.
