About Me

I operate a cybercafe cum computer training center. I have 11 computers which are networked together from which my customers access internet services. I also do training on basic computer operation and the packages. I also do other services such as photocopying, scanning and i sell stationary like envelops too.

My Business

The business mainly deals with offering computer services to the community of Utawala. I have 11 computers , Printer/Photocopy machine and one scanner. I decided to start this business because there was demand. People used to move to Nairobi which is about 30 kilometers away to get these computer services.

Loan Proposal

Dear Lenders, i wish to thank you so much for the financial support i got from Zidisha Inc. The loan
enabled me to improve the business tremendously. But if i am granted the current loan request, i will purchase 3 more ultra modern computer machines to improve service delivery to costumers.I will also purchase
training tools to improve on the quality of training to our students to become effective computer users
and Information Technology compliant.

    Dear Zidisha Team,
When do i expect full disbursement of the loan? So far 70,000KES was disbursed to me on 17th November, 2015 and yet the message
on this page still indicates that the loan is pending disbursement. The loan repayment dates should be formalized so that i know when to repay loan installments.

Hi John Macharia, thank you for your concern. The cybercafe business out here is challenging but good. I applied for a loan after successful completion of the repayment of the previous one but the funding towards the loan request appears to have stagnated since the lenders have only funded it up to 2% within a period of 14 days and yet only 6 days are left to the deadline to raise100%. I do not understand what could be the problem. I have uploaded several photos with the hope that the situation could change but to no avail. Throughout my previous loan repayment period, i maintained on-time repayment rate at 100%. My business would suffer a tremendous financial loss if not funded at the moment considering the period i took to repay the previous loan. It was devastating but i had to strive to just that in a bid to promote the business.
    May God bless you

Dear Zidisha Team, i wish to appeal to lenders to fund my loan since i maintained on-time loan repayment at 100% throughout my 24 months loan repayment period without defaulting ever since i took loans from zidisha and i assure lenders that i will maintain the profile. I bought (2) Two computers and repaired the old ones to boost income for the business with the loan fund. My current photo was taken in my Cybercafe by my phone although it does not look bright on the screen. I will upload another one soon if this one is not attracting lenders to easily fund my loan request. I will also upload the one taken from my poultry hatchery which i want to expand. But i earnestly appeal to Lenders to fund my loan request.

I wish to sincerely thank Zidisha Inc for their innovative idea of giving cheap and soft loan to members to improve their standard of living. I am happy to say that zidisha loan has improved my business skills and management of loans.
My special appreciation goes to lenders whose magnanimous contributions have
actually made it easy for me to embark on the business management without a lot of struggle. I am scheduled to complete my loan repayment on 4th November,2015 but i would wish to request Zidisha to reconsider increasing my credit limit since my invite is doing her best to coop up and manage her loan pretty
    well.
Thank you lenders for funding my business which has enabled me to live a stable life.
    May God bless you all.

    Dear Lenders,
As i move closer to the completion of repayment of my loan, i sincerely thank Lenders and appreciate their funding which has boosted my morale in business and become a strong businessman. When i complete repayment of the current loan successfully, i wish to venture vigorously in poultry farming. I will also utilize part of the loan granted to me in building a larger hatchery to accommodate a large number of chicken than what i currently have.
I once again thank lenders for their magnanimous gesture to fund small scale business people as the scheme has positively changed the lives of my low income people. Thank you.

    Dear Zidisha,
I am sorry for my silence for quite long. Although some other commitments engaged my time so as not to post comments, i maintained high profile rate of loan repayment at 100%.
When i got the loan, i purchased two new computers and repaired old ones to invigorate the income of the business. So far, the purchase has made a difference in that the profit of the business increased.
My earnings have increased by approximately 15% and this is demonstrated by
my rate of loan repayment. I have used the increased earnings for renovating my residential house in my Kisumu County. Part of the earnings were also spent in paying fees for my two daughters who are pursuing B.Com Degree at the University of Nairobi and Diploma in Nursing at Kenya Medical Training Center.
More detailed updates will be provided in the near future otherwise, i thank you so much your funding.

    Dear Zidisha Team,
M/S Odenyo who is my invitee is still unable to access her account and
hence does not know her loan balance. I posted a message on this issue on Feb 12,2015 but not yet responded to. I would wish her to be assisted so as to access her to facilitate her communication with Zidisha Team without a hitch.

    Dear Zidisha Team,
First and foremost, i must be apologetic to the Zidisha Team for not posting messages for so long. This has been due to unforeseen
challenges beyond my control. My spouse has been sick battling with rising blood sugar for a long time but she now improves a bit.
Also, my Invite M/S Pheobe Odenyo of e-mail "owuorpheobe@yahoo,com" and Tel 0728033774 has a problem in accessing her Zidisha account through her password. Efforts she has made to change her password has not succeeded since the code for changing the password sent by zidisha does not enter into her e-mail inbox.
Please help her to create for her a password from your end to enable her open her account and post messages from her account. Right now she is stranded and cannot know her loan a/c balance.

After a long career in personnel management with Kenyan Railways, Hezron Agan was looking for a business to supplement his small pension when he retired nearly a decade ago. He initially ran an internet cafe in central Nairobi but had to close it due to high rents and competition. He then opened his current ‘Surfing Point’ cyber cafe in his home area of MC Utawala on the outskirts of Nairobi but due to financial difficulties was forced to close it for some time before successfully reopening it around a year ago with assistance from his first Zidisha loan. Supplementing his two loans with some savings, Hezron purchased some more computers and upgraded the operating systems on others as well as purchasing a printer/copier, binding machine, scanner and new internet router. He also hoped to purchase a laminating machine but hasn’t been able to afford that to date.
He now has around eight computers which people use for surfing the net and playing games which is especially popular with children currently on school holidays in Kenya. Surfing Point also offers training courses in popular software packages such as the MS Office suite as well as desktop publishing. They hold these classes in the evening during the week as the courses are mainly attended by local adults who work during the day and each evening usually sees around half a dozen students there learning different packages.
Hezron and his enthusiastic employee Atkin have plenty of ideas for the business in future hoping to add more computers, more playstations for games, have the employees trained in basic equipment maintenance, sell films and offer computer training for students during the day during school and university holidays. Utawala is a fast growing area and population to they see lots of potential to expand the business.
One of their biggest challenges at the moment is the lack of a quality technician in the area to maintain and repair any items that breakdown. Atkin says they can often wait up to a week for a technician to come out to their area and even then the quality of repairs is often very poor so doesn’t last long. And in the hot, dusty environment with older equipment and an unreliable power supply the equipment does apparently break down a lot.
Hezron says the loans from Zidisha have really assisted him and says “that is what has stabilized me”. He is very committed to the timely repayment of his loan and looks forward to applying for future loans that “will elevate or improve the business quite so much”.
Hezron was also kind enough to invite me to his house which we walked to from the cyber cafe. It’s in a really nice, quiet area away from the noise and bustle of Nairobi’s busy streets and markets. Both his chickens and grandchildren seemed to enjoy roaming in the large yard. Hezron has around twenty chickens and twenty chicks for both egg laying and meat and he would like to expand this business further. He has also recently cultivated a corner of his large yard ready to plant maize and other vegetables before the next rainy season later in the year.
With ten children and ten grandchildren some of whom live with Hezron and some of whom were visiting, the house was bustling with activity and Hezron was quite busy with grandfather duties such as listening to the kids’ stories about their mornings, refereeing their disputes over toys and even providing his young granddaughter, Olivia, with a comfortable lap to sleep in.
Hezron is also involved in his local community as the Chairperson of the Kwari Welfare Association, an organization that tries to assist the needy in their community by raising money for things such as medical, education and burial costs.

I have realized that the Barclays Bank of Kenya have introduced "Zidisha Bonus Account" from which customers earn an interest of 5% on saving a minimum of ksh 10,000.00. Is zidisha Inc related to this Barclays Bank's new product?

    Thanks

      Hi Hezron
Yes, I've also noticed the ads for Barclays' Zidisha account. This is totally unrelated to Zidisha Inc. It's just a coincidence that they've used the same Swahili word as our name. Sorry for any confusion.

I am grateful to have this opportunity to post a comment on the progress i have so far made since i got the second loan. Above all, i wish to apologize for staying for long without posting a comment on how the business is performing.

So far, i have bought a Television set and opened "Play Station" for youth to play games. I found it to be popular and generates quick money especially during school holidays. I will soon send you the photographs just to show you how youths enjoy games from the Play Station. Another advantage with the games is that it does not depend on internet usage. It operates as long as there is power supply. I also wish to state that i really enjoy method of Zidisha loan repayment and terms and conditions loan as it is stress less.
