I was born in a village known as Simat in Uasin-Gishu County, Kenya, where I attended community primary school and later proceeded to a national secondary school. I completed my college learning in Nairobi in 2014 December. During my primary school studies, I had fee problems since I came from a financially struggling family. I started operating a small tree nursery of 1000 tree seedlings per season of which I sold each seedling at KSh 5. I used the money I raised from the project to pay partly for my school fee and to buy uniforms and textbooks. This helped me to pursue my education smoothly.
TOMATO FARMING
I grow tomatoes as a business. Tomatoes are in high demand due to my farm's proximity to Eldoret town which has approximately 1.2m residents. I chose tomato farming because of my passion for farming and the high returns. I use approximately 700 USD for planting and general crop care until harvest per season. Upon harvest, I get a profit of approximately 400 USD per season. I partly use the profits I get for payment of school fees for my siblings and the rest I reinvest in other businesses.
I will use loan given to 2000metres buy drip line at 200 Dollars, Connecting pipes at 100 dollars and water tank at approximately 150 dollars. This will reduce the variable cost of my farm and increase production due to efficient irrigation. By rolling out drip Irrigation i expect my profit to increase by approximately 25%.
