I am the second born in a family of four. I was brought up in Western part of Kenya. I schooled at Malava Girls which is also a school in Western Kenya. My parents also live in Kakamega. I am a mother of one boy who is two years. I live in umoja. i work as a hair dresser in my own salon which is situated in the central district of Nairobi. I started this business since i realised that i am talented in that area. I serve people from different part of Nairobi. I also sell beauty products in my salon. I will use the loan to buy machines used in the salon like blow dry, flat iron and drier. I use the earnings from my business to take care of my son.
my business deals with hair dressing, manicure, pedicure and facials. i sell beauty procts like cutex, lotions, hair chemicals and treatments, hair weaves and braids, earrings and chains shampoos and clothes. The business is profitable since everyone wants to look decent and smart. There is a college near my work area whereby students come for facials and massage, weaves and to buy beauty products. Many people prefer my salon since i give them the best and at a good price. I will use the loan to invest in the business and expand so as to meet my customers needs.
My name is Alice Akinyi, I stay in Umoja and have a small office in town. I have over 6 years of experience in the Beauty industry. The market for this business is good. Women in particular, especially, are fond of my unique, hand-plaited designs, and I have had a continuous and growing demand for this job. Many of these customers are repeat customers.
My target market is: fashion oriented young people who seek an exclusive and unique design working women; and groups and associations who require unique designs for different occasions such as weddings, or to mark special events.
My business has two advantages over my competition - my prices are slightly lower because I have a lower cost structure, and my work is very beautiful and unique. I am responding to the needs of my customers, who want something unique and fashionable, while still reasonably priced. The problem i have is that i lack some equipments like a drying machine to enable me run efficiently. The profits I get I use to sustain myself and my son.
