About Me

I am the sixth born in a family of 8. Growing up in such a big family was tough, particularly, as our parents were financially constrained. As such, I was unable to continue my education past form 2 level. However, during my 2 years in high school, I discovered my 'talent' in ironing clothes. Often, my classmates would give me their shirts and trousers, so I could iron for them. In return, I was able to get some stipend for my living expenses. After dropping out of school, naturally, I only thought of ironing clothes so as to sustain myself. I did some odd jobs and after 3 months I managed to save and opened my 'ironing place' or as we call them here "Dobi". This business has managed to support me and I am confident that going forward, I will be able to expand and boost my income potential.

My Business

As indicated above, I operate an ironing business. My customers are people who do not know how to iron themselves or do have have enough time for that. I charge the same amount for any cloth I am to iron, that is, ksh10 (This will be approximately 1 dollar for 10 clothes. My average daily earnings are $10.
My major expense is electricity, which I pay around 30$ a month. Other expenses include: rent $15 and trading licenses $5. On a typical month, I make about $200 in profits. I mainly use the profits for my family maintenance and paying school fees.I hope to grow my business by incorporating manual laundry services and employing one more assistant.

Loan Proposal

Dear Lenders,
I wish to seek your support for my loan fundraiser.
I wish to expand my ironing business by incorporating a manual laundry services. Customers will now be able to give me their dirty clothes and I will return back to them when they are clean and ironed. I will use the loan amount to buy soap and detergent in bulk @ $50, washing basins @ $10 and miscellaneous washing materials @10. I will then use about $10 for advertising my new service and about $20 to facelift my current premises and to look for an assistant that I intend to pay on commission basis for his/her services.
I will sincerely appreciate all the support you accord me. Thank you

Kind regards,
Kelvin Nduati
