About Me

My name is Josphat Gichuru Mbugua, i am 30 years old. I do farming, vegetable farming to be precise. I started farming in 2017 as a part time activity because i am a programmer by profession until mid last year when i decided to get serious on it.

In the area i live in, Nakuru, tends to be hot and dry spell starts around August and continues to around end of march when rains start. During dry season, there is a high demand for vegetable and they are sold at very high prices. Due to this problem i decided to try and plant my vegetables in sacks filled with a mixture of soil and organic manure. This bags help retain water in soil and reduce evaporation thus ensuring availability of comodity throughout the dry season. This practise also reduce labour cost as there is no weeding required.

Ave been doing good with around 200 bags with each bag holding 50 plants that makes it 10,000 plants. I concentrate on Fordhook Giant Spinach, kales (sukumawiki) and nightshade. The vegetable are in high demand around here.

I have plans for the venture and with funds i will be able to expand as well as improve for example am using guinea bags which wear out quickly. There are quality bags designed for this kind of farming but are abit expensive but durable. I have plans of investing in them with enough funds.

In general the venture is doing great.. I have enjoyed returns, i have used some money to invest back to the business and some to help me turn the wheel of life. I thank all Zidisha lenders who has helped me when in tough situation and helped me improve production from my business, i do appreciate a lot.

My Business

I used to do programming and web development full time back in 2017, currently am doing both programming and farming. My main source of income is from farming (small scale) and programming. Bt i am now focusing more on farming. With funds i will be able to improve and expand my venture. Thank you.

Loan Proposal

First am thanking my previous lenders and the zidisha platform now that am not where i was some time back i have grown my project and now its a business.

Am now kindly requesting for a small loan so am able to expand my business. Am planning to add more planting bags which are made from a tough net and they are durable so they will serve longer. A bag costs $6 around here in Kenya. Am planning to buys ten bags and the rest of funds will boost what i already have in purchasing seedlings manure and labour.

This will boost the yield and i will meet the already existing demand for vegetables and i will grow my project to where i aim to be.

Hope you will consider my request. Thank you in advance.
