About Me

I grew up in a remote village in Western Kenya along the shores of Lake Victoria.I was involved in child labour since I started fishing at a tender age of 6,this was because I was an orphan. Through my perseverance and community support managed to go to school and overcome all these. I started this business because I also wanted to give back community and that is why I chose school business and currently there are 40 orphans and vulnerable who are learning at the centre free of charge ,we managed to register 20 this year 2015.
Kayole being in a city has almost all the communities in Kenya with diverse culture, I would like my children to do community work in future and I like watching football and I am the most loyal supporter of Chelsea Football Club in Kenya.

My Business

I do two businesses in one; I provide services in form of education and also sell school uniforms to the children at the school and others in the community. The uniforms are in high demand when the year starts since most of the children will be in need of new school uniform and others might have changed school. I choose this business because it is a long term business since children are born daily and clothing in a basic need and education is also important. A full school uniform cost $ 8 and can be sold @ $ 12.The profits are ploughed back to the business to expand it and also support the orphans and vulnerable children at the centre.

Loan Proposal

My loan will be used to expand my school uniform business as we head towards the begging of the year.I will buy 20 shirts @ $ 2 and sell between $ 3.5 to 4 depending on the size ,this will yield a profit margin close to 80 percent and it is anticipated that the sells will be done within one weeks and other uniforms brought. There is high demand for school uniform when the year opens in Kenya since some children might have over grown the one they had ,other have changed schools and other parents just need a new pair of uniform for a fresh start.
The area is densely populated and that makes a ready market, the loan will help me sustain and expand my business, the children will also get ready uniforms in their neighborhood and that will reduce costs for traveling to other places to access uniform..

I am now happy that I have repaid over 50 % of my loan in a week or so.I hope to clear before the end of the year. From the look of things it was as if this loan was not going to be repaid but I said to myself that it cant and will never happen as long as I live.

Hi Elise and every other lender together with Zidisha team.I know I have not made any payment for over a month and what contributed to this partially the team, when I did clear my last loan I have an expectation but when I made the application I got less money that I was expecting so it made my plans to fail,I tried reducing the amount but I was told I must make some payments before adjust but even with that I will make some payments this weekend and then reduce the amount to the amount I can manage and then adjust later.Thank you all.

It's always good to appreciate and today it is Zidisha I am appreciating. The loans that I have gotten from Zidisha have helped me a lot. I borrow to be able to sell school uniforms in the community, and I use the profit to help orphans get uniforms and to feed others in our project who cannot afford food. There had been increases in the numbers of such children who have needed our support, and again Zidisha came to my rescue. I used the profit from the previous loan to pay a website developer and it is now up and running. I did that to share with the world what I do so that those with interest in such projects, and the ability to help, can positively impact the lives of orphans living in Nairobi slums. Looking at our children, they all are in a school uniform, even those who cannot afford it, all having been made possible by Zidisha. www.fortunelearnerscentre.org is my website.

I happy to have cleared my loan, as I did promise earlier. It does not make me feel comfortable when I hold people's money for long. I hope all those who lent to me last will get back their money and lend to me again. Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen.

I am happy to report that I can now pay more money than I used to do, and this is because some of the people who have been owing me have managed to repay.

    Dear lenders,
It has been a long time since you people heard from me. The Fortune Project has not been doing well and it has affected my loan repayment. I think March might a good month and I will do my best to clear the loan in the month of March. I am also happy to share with you that Fortune has a website where friends can learn how their loans impact the lives of orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya: www.fortunelearnerscentre.org .

    Dear lenders and friends,
I take this opportunity to wish you all the best during this festive season. I have to agree that there have been difficulties in loan repayment by lenders from Kenya. As we start the new year, I invite all our friends to get involved in what we do. We are looking for sponsors for the three orphans.

    Hello lenders,
I have called Charles today morning. He has told me he is working hard to get money and repay the loan. Meanwhile, he is under financial pressure which he is sorting out.
He promised to repay in the course of the week.

      Hi Mr.Makau,
I have read your post here and also received an email. Why do you report what you know is not true, when you did call me and got that information? I know I did not make payments for the 1st and the 8th of November, and the reason was that I never got any reminder and I have not been paying weekly. I normally make six or seven weekly payments at once, so it's not easy to know exactly when the next payment is to be made. I feel wronged to see this information on my wall.

    Dear friends,
Thank you for your prayers. A friend has started this campaign for Fortune to help raise some money for rent. We are on the verge of being evicted. Here is the link to the campaign: www.gofundme.com/d86ghmnw

As I shared, most schools are in session in Kenya. That has affected the school uniform business, but I hope the situation will improve soon.

    Hi my lenders and followers,
I am happy to be associated with Zidisha since I joined the organization. I have never regretted it. The loans I have received have helped improve my income, as well as support men in some other projects I do. I have also made friends here; some have gotten involved in what I do. On August 7, I highlighted the plight of one girl called Quincy who is getting education at our project, Fortune School-Kayole. The girl used to go without food and the guardian who is her aunt was not in a position to pay her tuition. I took it upon myself to see that she would get food every day, even though I was struggling because there are so many orphans and vulnerable children at the project. This week, her help came from Zidisha. One of the lenders came to her rescue and has agreed to put her through her education by paying her tuition fees, two school uniforms every year, shoes, breakfast and lunch, all textbooks, exercise books, and other vital educational materials.

I thank Zidisha for all of that. Quincy was helped, but the list of orphans and vulnerable children at our project is still quite long. Anyone who is touched by this and in a position to help, however little, is welcome to do so, or to any link to an organization to support such project, would be highly appreciated. I can be reached through [email protected] or [email protected] .
