I was born in Vihiga and brought up In Nairobi . I attended school at st Peters Clavers pry school and then proceeded to Thika Technical School where l completed my o levels. My parents were very poor and life was very hard getting school fees and food was a challenge. I worked very hard to better my life and started farming business venture. I got a small loan from a friend which helped me to start the farming business.There are no big farms in our région because of the dense populatio. l have three children and each wants to pursue different goals In life; doctor, soldier and the other wants to join me in farming. He like being in the farm all the time checking on the progress of my crops and animals.
I sell eggs, chicken, milk and vegetables. These are basic commodities used by all house holds. I like farming I spent approximately Kshs. 40,000/- and earn approximately. 80,000/- per month. From the sale I use the profit to pay school fees and improve my farm.
The chicken business is profitable because there is a high demand for white meat especially on the local chicken which we keep and also their eggs are preferred by most people.
The main challenges are diseases and feed which is very expensive. I believe that if I succeed to get the loan from Zidisha I will be able to buy many chicks in readiness for the market. At the moment I intend to buy 10 chicks and add to recent stock, as the business grows I will be able to also create employment.
Following is my proposal for the loan:
1 chick = Kshs. 70/= per chick.
10 chick =Kshs. 70 x 10 chicks = Kshs. 700/=
FEED
SARTER MASH = 2 bags.
1 bag = Kshs. 2,000/= per bag
2 bags = Kshs 2,000 x 2 = Kshs. 4,000/=
FINISHER = 3 BAGS
1 bag = Kshs. 2,500/= per bag
3 bags = Kshs. 2,500/= x 3 = Kshs. 7,500/=
Drugs = Kshs. 2,000/=
Miscellaneous = Kshs. 2,000/=
TOTAL: Kshs. 16,200/=
I still intend to add my stock, and also do finishing to what had remained in purchasing e.g -:
FINISHER = 3 BAGS
1 bag = Kshs. 2,500/= per bag
3 bags = Kshs. 2,500/= x 3 = Kshs. 7,500/=
Drugs = Kshs. 2,000/=
Miscellaneous = Kshs. 2,000/=
