I am true testament of the power of the community. After losing my parents at a very young age, relatives and friends helped me through life and gave me the strength to overcome the hardest challenge of my life.
As a parent, I now realize the value of commercial farming as opposed to subsistence farming as financial commitments increase.
It is also very fulfilling for me to be in a position to help others in the community just as others bore my burden as I was growing up.
A big thank you to my first Zidisha loan as this has made a remarkable improvement in my life, my family and the people around me.
the business is mainly poultry farming . I keep broilers and sell to the market when they are mature. The poultry business have a huge demand in Nairobi, this is because many people are taking the first foods especially during lunch time. the main expenses for this business is purchase of one day old chicken and feeds. 500 chicks will cost 30,000 Ksh ($358). this will require about 25 bags of feeds. each bag is Ksh 4000 ($48). the total cost of feeds therefore comes to $1200. When all other expenses like labor, transportation included, the profit from the venture about $ 607.
I will buy 3bags of chicken feed(starter mash and starter crumbs). Each is 50kg and costs ksh 3000 ($33.4) this totals to $100.2.
This will go a long way in establishing my business so that the amount I borrow from other sources to sustain 350 chicken to maturity will reduce hence less interest cost.
I expect my profit to increase by ksh 3000 as the estimated percentage profit I get from my capita is 30%
