About Me

My name is Sabina Akumu,I was raised by my mum after the death of my dad when I was five years. We are four children and I am the first born in our family. My childhood life was not easy as we all depended on my mum who was a small scale farmer to raise us. occasional we spend without food but struggled and worked hard in school to better our future. I struggled in school but did not do very well because I was always in and out of school ,however I got a good grade. I could not join college because of lack of school fees.
I helped my mum in the farm for a short while then traveled to Nairobi to get a greener pasture, however life was tough in Nairobi and I decided to travel back home. I attended a two day seminar organized by a local NGO and these would change my life and my family life forever.I learnt about high value crops and market trends.I had to beg my mother to change her farming ways so that We could adopt more modern farming system and plant high value crops. We started by growing traditional African vegetables .The crops did well and I sold the first batch.I was able to pay my siblings fees and since then I have never looked back.
I love dancing, singing ,making new friends and socializing.

My Business

I sell vegetables both indigenous and exotic . I practice organic farming and avoid use of chemicals in my farm.
Vegetables demand is high due to the dwindling sizes of agricultural land that has led to less production and growth in population that has caused higher demand.
I choose farming business because I learnt the returns were good.
My cost of production is $150 per month on average and monthly revenues is $350 on average per month.
I use most of my income in paying school fees for my siblings and supporting my family.I also save for betterment of the farm through adoption of technology.

Loan Proposal

I am so grateful for my first loan. It was indeed very useful has it helped me to add the lenght of my pipe and irrigate the expanded farm. I am requesting for a$200 loan to help me buy a second foot pump to accommodate the farm expansion. The loan will help me to irrigate the farm with easy and faster. Thank you
