About Me

My name is Betty Auma.I am the second born in a family of five.I am also a single mum to my seven year old son.I went to school in Moyyo Academy before moving to Eshikalame primary in Imanga village when my parents separated.Passing my primary education final exams(KCPE) ensured that i was called to a private national school. However, due to financial difficulties i enrolled to a nearby secondary school and still didn't disappoint.I attained a B- mean grade.Since i couldn't join university at the time,i went back to Nairobi city and got a job at a canteen.Later in 2007 i got another job as an office assistant at transport company.Due to my hard work and ability to learn fast i was promoted to accounts assistant. This is because i was able to learn how to use a computer and also quick books software without attending any class. During that time i learned a lot about accounting just by asking colleagues and learning through the internet.I left the company when i got a scholarship to do CPA at Foundation Institute of Africa in 2011.However,it was closed down weeks into the first semester and i looked for a new job, saved and started paying for my fees.I have currently done till section three.I started my poultry business when i saw a demand for indigenous chicken. Most people are trying to watch what they eat and they prefer organic foods.I sourced my chicken that is improved from Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) in August.

My Business

The reason there's demand for my indigenous improved chicken is because they lay more eggs in a year compared to the normal indigenous chicken. In addition some people prefer it because of it delicious taste. It took me three months after ordering from KARI to finally get my chicks. This shows how many people are interested in this type of chicken.I would like to be part of the people who fill in that gap.My flock of 38 is now 4.5 months old and they are almost laying. My plan is to buy an incubator and be able to hatch chicks that i will sell as day old. There is also market for eggs and meat for consumption.the only risk in my business is diseases which am avoiding by following the vaccination guidelines i was given.

Loan Proposal

First i want to thank the lenders for my first loan.My hens havent began laying yet and for that reason i would like to use this second loan to start another business.I have discovered that i can get ladies handbags at eastleigh market and sell them at a profit.I will be selling online as well as through word of mouth.Since its a startup i will start small and God willing if all goes well i may be getting cheaper ones from dubai in future. Thanks again for this opportunity.
