About Me

My name is Steven Opulo. I come from Luanda town in Vihiga County. I attended the Luanda township primary school and then proceeded to Maseno School, where I finished my secondary education. I was born and raised by a single mom, who helped in paying for my school fees. Mostly, however, I got school fees sponsorship from a local NGO called Plan International Child Fund.

My mom was just a local small scale trader, who specialized mainly in selling green vegetables. After finishing high school, I couldn't continue my education and started to apply for menial jobs that did not go through. Luckily my neighbor, Mr. James Nyakwaka bought a mortobike and employed me to use it in his boda-boda business.

This was a breakthrough for me and for my siblings because I am now in a good position to feed my family and send my siblings to school. Through this job, I also managed to join Sigalagala Training Institute for a diploma in management. In this time, I have also managed to save USD250. Now, I want you to support me in buying my own bike.

My Business

The transport business has been a hobby and source of my livelihood for two years now. It is one of the most lucrative businesses because no country can run without transport. Since I started this business, I have built a good customer base and this usually guarantees me good daily revenues. It is through my good customer relationships that I keep my business moving.

The charges for motorbike taxi usually depends on the distance and the weight of luggage that has been carried. The cost is between USD 0.9-1.5. On a good day, I can manage to collect USD 30 in total. My typical daily expenditures includes fuel (USD 8), hiring costs (USD 5), municipal rates (USD 2), and other minor expenses not exceeding (USD 3, e.g. puncture repair). This leaves me with USD 12 as my net earnings. After removing my home expenditures of USD 4 daily, I have USD 8 as my daily savings.

With your loan I will buy a second hand bike and hire it out. This will boost my daily savings and hence help me realize my dreams.
