About Me

My names are John Kamau Kanume.I live at a place called Game. Game is about 38kilometers from Nakuru town and is along the Nakuru-Kiptangwanyi road. Game is about 6kilometers from Kiptangwanyi. The shopping center is at a strategic place as it is only a few meters from the tarmac road while headed to Nakuru. This town is growing at a fast rate and the demand for more businesses in the area is just increasing everyday. I am married with four children who are all in school and doing well. They attend a local public school which is quite cheaper compared to private schools around the area. i live in my own piece of land which is plot number 12 a few meters from the shopping center of game. Game shopping center borders lake Nakuru National park to the North and this is where the area got its name. I have a cereals shop at the shopping center and it is quite doing well. I started this business in the year 1999.

My Business

I operate cereals shop at the shopping center of game. I have been in this business for about 12 years and thus a good experience in the business. The main commodities which I purchase and sell in this business are maize, beans, wheat and sorghum. Maize is usually the main common product that has high demand compared to the other commodities. This is because it is a staple food in Kenya. Business is usually good during the harvest season and this are the months of August throughout to January. The season for beans is usually during the months of May to August. When the demand is high and the supply is low, I usually get my stock from areas of Mau, Narok and even from Nakuru. The business is profitable as the main commodities that I sell are basic needs and thus the demand is usually throughout. The main challenges that this business encounter are drought and lack of enough funds to expand the business.

Loan Proposal

I am very grateful for such an opportunity be given a loan from Zidisha micro-finance. I would like to use this loan that I will get from Zidisha to expand my store. I have been having a lot of difficulties in storage. The room which I have been using for storage is small and thus cannot hold much quantity of cereals. This loan will be of great importance in improving this business.
