About Me

I am the last born in the family of four, aging twenty years old. I was born in Eastern parts of Kenya in one of the driest parts of the country. At the age of five years I joined nursery school in one of the local schools in our community in the year 1997. I went forward and completed my primary level in the year 2005 and obtained a mean grade of B+. Because of financial problem we had in our family, I joined a community secondary school and studied for four years. I completed my secondary level in the year 2009 obtaining a mean grade of B of which I didn’t qualify to join a public university. In the year 2010, I started teaching at my former secondary school teaching business studies, mathematics and geography at the midst of the year I enrolled myself in part time studies. In the year 2011 I opened a business of printing from the savings of my teaching’s salary. It is from then when I ventured in business and joined Faulu. I went forward with my business and saw that it has good returns.
I now operate a small printing firm in Coastal areas of Kenya situated at Watamu, Kenya. Although it is a small firm and hoping to be one of the greatest printing firm in the country. My business has huge returns because I buy t-shirts at Kshs. 150 and print it at Kshs. 50 totaling Kshs. 200 and then sell it at Kshs.500 when printed thereby making a profit of Kshs. 300 per T-shirt. I am hoping that from Zidisha my business will grow because I am planning to add printing machines through finances of Zidisha. And eradicate poverty in my family and community at large. Thank you Zidisha for bringing right to us.

My Business

My business started in the year 2011 after I had committed my sales and marketing course. After finishing this course I saw that was the right time to benefit from it.
I saw many schools in Coastal Province suffering from where they could get printing services. I did my analysis and saw that they were to travel from Coast to Nairobi to do printing of which they could at least spend two days of travelling. I saw that gap and I took a step forward to bridge that gap. I started by printing diaries, report forms and school books with their logos. I now print both stationeries and also school T-shirts, badges and also I print T-shirts for groups like microfinance groups. I also do all printings and typesetting and school exams.
Many schools come to me because I have built trust in them such that I deliver goods at the exact agreed time and date of delivery.
They also prefer my goods of the best quality and at reasonable prices. My business is much profitable because I buy one T-shirt at Kshs. 150 and print it at Kshs. 50 totaling Kshs. 200 and then sell it at Kshs.500 thereby making a profit of Kshs. 300 per T-shirt.
Sometimes my business face some challenges because I have to pay people for me because I don’t have printing machines so I have to buy T-shirts and take it to printing. Another challenge is that I operate my business in Coastal regions where it goes by seasons. Sometimes when the season is low such that tourists are not coming, I don’t get market. I have been finding a solution to this and I am planning through Zidisha Microfinance to open another firm that will deal with natural honey of which I have calculated and found that it sells a lot. For example a twenty litre of Natural Honey I can buy it at Kshs.4000 and when I pack it into small bottles of 120ml I can sell the same twenty litres at Kshs. 10,000 thereby gaining a profit of Kshs. 6000.
At the end of the month I pay rent of Kshs.6000 I also pay school fees for my niece of Kshs. 3000 per month and Kshs. 6000 for food and other domestic needs per month. The total cost totals at Kshs. 15,000 when I subtract from my income from the business of Kshs. 30,000 per month, I remain with Kshs. 15,000 as saving of which now I will be using the amount by paying Zidisha loan and also I finance my other projects I have plans for when Zidisha Microfinance finances me.
