About Me

My name is Wafula Benard Simiyu. I was born in Kwanza location, Kwanza division of Trans Nzoia county on 14th June 1977. I joined Testboune primary school in 1983 to 1990. I later joined Friends' school Kamusinga and completed my ordinary level exams in 1996. I later joined college in Kenyatta university for my Bachelor of education (Arts) and completed in 2009. I have been teaching in various schools and currently I am teaching in kimangu High school in Rongai district.

My Business

Other than teaching, I practice dairy farming with my three grade cows on a three acre piece of land. I am currently milking all the three cows. Each cow produces 5 litres of milk, totaling 30 litres per day since we normally milk twice a day (at Ksh 30x 30 = Ksh 900). Monthly total income from milk is Ksh 27,000. Monthly total expenditure is Ksh 5,000, inclusive of drugs and spraying.

Loan Proposal

I intend to use the loan to buy one more dairy cattle to make them four in order to increase on my milk output because of the recent market expansion whereby i am selling to my neighbors and also sending some to the Kenya Cooperative Creameries (K.C.C) where i am paid monthly. The cost of the dairy cow is Kshs. 45,000.
Besides this,i also want to build a store for the preservation and preservation of farm yard manure from cow dung and left over feeds because of recent i have realized that this is also a very lucrative business that enabled me to pay my first loan even before the required time. The approximate cost of the store is about Kshs. 40,000.The remaining Kshs.15,000 will be used for paying the workers who will be doing the work. The combination of dairy farming and selling farm yard manure will enable me expand my business and at the end i know i will be an established entrepreneur and a successful businessman.

    To all friends and lenders,
Thank you very much for feeling sorry for me. It is difficult and frustrating to withstand such a big loss that has taken me back to the first step. It has interfered with all my family operations and spending but i am trying to solicit for funds from friends and relatives so that i may reorganize my business again. Otherwise i have great hopes of bouncing back. Thanks Mamaste 250 and DVM1417 for your great concern.

I am surprised and in great worry due to a strange disease that has even been a problem to veterinary doctors to detect that killed my two cows. It is a great loss but i promise to bounce back once i reorganize myself. Good luck to all Zidisha lenders, businessmen and women in all your endeavors.

      Hi Benard,
Sorry to hear the very bad news about your cows and their mystery disease. I hope it hasn't spread to the other cows, and they stay healthy and produce a lot of milk.
      Best wishes, Ann

Thanks for your concern DVM1417. Dairy farming is prone to so many risks and uncertainties. The biggest mistake i made in the first place was to forget to insure my cows because if i could have done that i could have been compensated so as i reorganize myself i also put into consideration the issue of insurance. Otherwise thank you for your concern.

My cows were attached by a strange disease that resulted to two of them dying. I have engaged the veterinary officers and have salvaged the remaining one and a calf. This has brought a great loss to me but i am organizing myself to pick up again. I promise to resume paying on 10th October, 2014( next month)

I would want to be paying Kshs. 5,000 and starting February 10TH.I will not be able to pay the January instalment because I did my annual routine treatment to my cows which where the cost amounted to Kshs.20,000.I therefore kindly request that you allow me to reschedule my repayment up to next month(February) and the I will be paying as shown. Otherwise I thank you very much for your continued support.

Hello! I am fine with rescheduling payment for next month(February). Please continue to provide care for your animals(I am a veterinarian so I do understand how important care is and how much it costs). Please let me know how things go and keep me posted. I am fine with you paying your payment in February. Thank you for your continued payment and excellent care of your animals. Melissa Krause, DVM

    Hi Lenders,
I am very worried. the bidding for my loan ends today at midnight Kenyan time. My wife has been asking me what really would happen in the event that we are not funded. I told her that when loans are not funded, the green strip turns red and that signifies the end of our project. This, in our customs, is a bad thing as red is associated with bad omen. I am praying to the almighty that this does not happen. Kindly come to my rescue. I only need 165.04 USD.
    Thank you
    Benard

      Hello Mr. Simiyu,
I was going to say that if this loan is not funded you could apply again, but now I see that it's 100% funded! Congratulations and I wish the best for you, your family, and your business,
      Kirsten

    Dear Benard Simiyu,

I really enjoy reading your updates. Thank you so much for sharing your insight into how your prior Zidisha loan has helped your farming business and your community. I think it is wonderful that now you are able to hire three workers and are able to be philanthropic yourself by generously giving them free milk every day for their families.
I hope that other lenders will read your comments and help your loan reach 100 percent funding soon so you can continue to make a difference in your community.

    Hi lenders,
The only solution to food security in Africa and other third world countries is investment in intensive agricultural programmes which focuses on drought resistant and early maturing crops. However, the biggest problem has been lack of capital and fluctuation of prices of agricultural products. In addition to this, the price of farm inputs is so high and unaffordable to most small scale farmers and also unreliable weather conditions. It is indeed a great shame that still in this 21st century, people are still dying of hunger. To this effect, i want to thank Zidisha for being at the forefront in empowering small scale farmers like me in our efforts to alleviate poverty through our efforts. My small scale dairy farming has also assisted small scale farmers around my vicinity access farm yard manure and the vegetables that have been planted are flourishing very well.I therefore kindly request all lenders to move with speed to fund my loan so that we may all use the slightest opportunity in assisting each other towards prosperity and food security. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Lenders,
I am grateful and happy because of my business of keeping cattle and preparing farm yard manure because of some reasons:
1.This business has turned around my financial base and i am able to attend to my financial obligations without much problems.I help my larger extended family and my own family,i am able to pay school fees for my children who are studying in academies and any upkeep cost for my family.
2.This business has also linked me to the international community where i have found new friends who through faith and trust are philanthropic and willing to assist people better their lives. This has led to an improved living standard to many people a cross the globe.
3.This business has also helped me to be a job creator because i have employees whom am paying monthly and also giving them a litre of milk everyday free of charge for their own family consumption.
4.Through preservation and preparation of farm yard manure,i have helped my community in supplementing the artificially prepared fertilizer that is not affordable. This has made them improve on their farming and also being able to earn income through selling vegetables of all kinds. Therefore i feel being empowered by Zidisha to become a philanthropist in extending my services to other people.
Therefore in as much as i am being assisted,i also feel like touching the lives of other people in the community in one way or another and that is why am requesting you friends to continue funding my bids so that i may expand my business so that i may continue extending my help to other people. Thanks in advance.
