.My father passed on in 2006 leaving our sick and aged mother whom i live with in Githunguri Utawala. I attended school upto college and i had a job till 2007 when i was retrenched.I ventured in business thereafter for survival. From my earnings i buy medicine for my mother who has both diabetes and high blood pressure, pay my son's school fees and other household provisions. I also support my late sisters children.
I buy building stones from quarry along Eastern Bypass and sell to prospective home owners in and around utawala area. With the high demand for accomodation there are a number of buyers.I mostly get customers from referral by my previous clients.I stay on top of competition by providing quality stones and in time. The business is profitable in that there is a high demand for home ownership.
However, there are risks but the major one is losing out of business due to the many upcoming building stones suppliers who own lorries and tend sometimes to charge cheaper.
On a typical month my sales can be as shown:-
(a)cost of stones ---5000.00
cost of transport-2500.00
------------
total ----7500.00
(b)sale of stones--9000.00
:-b - a = profit
9000.00 - 7500.00=1500.00
nb/
if i supply a lorry daily for a month;
1500.00
*6 days in a wk
--------------
9000.00
* 4 (no. of wks in a mth)
---------------
36000.00
My monthly sales are more or less kshs.36000.00.
I plan to lease a quarry space of 40ft by 50ft at 30000 then use the balance of 10000 to start me off on digging out stones.the 10000 will buy digging tools like matchetes, spades and wheelbarrow.i will also put aside some 4000 which sustain the workers for about a week.by so doing i will remain in business even with a high suppliers competition.
