I am married and father of 5 children, my wife and we are from the local community of Tiriki in western part of Kenya, during my childhood i was raised like a warrior, my job was to take care of my father's cows, go fetch firewood in the forest, and perform any other duty that was assign to me, Education was not a priority in my family, i went to school but it was because the rest of the community was going to school,My business came about the experience that i had in farming, i knew all about farming from growing crops, rearing poultry or castles i grew up doing this and this is how i ended up in the farming arena. my culture is still preserved and we are still finding ways to blend modernizations and some traditions that support the current century.
My business involves growing a variety of vegetables for the local market i had to practice what is is demand and what can move with much strain, i have ventured in growing cabbages, sukuma wiki, dhania, kunde, managu, yarns, if i sell my vegetables in whole sell depending on the supply i make a great return, if i sell them in retail i takes long and the profit margins are less than the whole style of selling. The profits go to Educating my children i dont want them to be warriors like i was, i pay my house rent, and take care of all the bills from this.
The loan will go the purchase of 10 tonnes of manure as recommended by the Agricultural officer, this will cost 12500 kshs to buy the manure, and then i will hire two youths to help me for 3 days to mix it well with the soil, i will pay each 500 kshs per day for 3 days total will be 3000 kshs, after doing this i believe that my farm will have better harvest next time and according to the agricultural officer i will do this at least after 3-5 years. This will give my family a place in the society, my children will go to school, i will meet my responsibilities as a father and i will be a proud husband.
