I am fourth in a family of six siblings. My parent passed away in 2002 after they were involved in a road accident. I am 25 years old. After the death of my parents, uant took the responsibiliy of paying my secondary school fees. I completed secondary school studies in 2006, despite encountering numerous financial challenges. I was not fortunate enough to get a sponsor for college education. Thus, I had to find out a way of living.
I was employed by Raha tea packers., a small company based in limury in 2007. I worked there until 2011 when war crises affected the main market for the company, Somalia. I had made some savings and decided to open a butchery. I started with selling sheep meet but eventually, managed to sell cow meet as well. Today, I have expanded the business and I also sell cooked sheep and cow meet. Currently, I use the returns from the business in paying my bills and supporting the business to achieve competitive edge. I have developed the necesary skills that have enabled me to run the business smoothly.
Curently, I rely on my butchery as the main source of income. I also cultivate cabbages and other farm produces but in small amounts. I sell both cooked and uncooked sheep and cow meet and have already established customers and reputation in the Area. There is only one other butchery in Murengeti and the owner operates the way I do currently, through purchasing meet from the slaughterhouse. I believe that my plan is innovative and I will have an aded advantage. Also, I will eliminate problems of low supply that we come across sometimes, especially during holidays. I have one and quater acres of land that I inherited from my father and will lease more land to support my business.
Currently, I buy one cow and one sheep each day. The average cost of purchasing them is around Kshs 35,000. My average gross income per day is Shs. 1,500. I have employed one person and I pay him Kshs 15,000 per month. After deducting other expenses, my average net profit per month is around Kshs 25,000. If I can slaughter my own sheep and cow, I estimate that I they can give me a gross profit of more than Kshs15,000 in a day. Thus, I believe that that will be a breakthrough to me. I considered this decision because I found it to be the best way of expanding my profit. People of Limuru are good consumers and cow and sheep meet. However, the demand for the meet is almost satisfied. This means that increasing my supply may not work well since there may be exccess supply than demand, which may lead to loss. Thus, finding an alternative and cheaper source through rearing my own sheep and cows is one way through which higher profits can be realized.
Since the business is ongoing, I will use the daily returns in repaying the loan. I am assured that with my plan in place, I will have a breakthrough in less than two years. Thanks a lot to lenders for opening this oportunity that can help to support my plans.
Thanks to Zidisha for giving me this good oportunity to expand my business. My focus is long-term. I will use the loan amount in purchasing a lambs. A lamb that is below 6 months costs Kshs 1,500 and below. I already have savings and I will add to the loan. My business is ongoing and I earn an average of Kshs 1,500 daily. After deducting expenses, I have an average profit of Kshs 800 daily. Once I manage to repay my first loan, I will consider additional loans that will augment my savings and purchase calfs. Thus, I will be able to pay my loan with that money. I welcome lenders to support me in realizing my long-term goals.
