Hello Zidisha,

I hope you are doing well? On my side I am doing well and my business is also doing well. We are now approaching the end of year season and mostly this is the best time businesswise. It seems this is a holiday period for most of the people and they are normally ready to spend more money for pleasure. Therefore I am expecting to get more customers for the wines and spirits hence need to stock more. I am trying my level best to clear the remaining amount (loan) very soon so that I can apply for more to enable me prepare for the season. I am sure this will double my income. Sincerely, I am a very different personal due to the financial assistance you offered to me. Due to the income I generate from your funding I have managed to move from an ordinary kiosk of greens to cereal store and currently to a Wines and Spirits shop which is doing well. i invested the loan and bought maize worth 70000.so far i have not been able to sell the maize and needs to hold on for the market prices to improve.the maize is still in my granary and i anticipate to sell it when prices improve .i know i will inconvenience you lenders but just bear with me for the time being.otherwise iam doing well with my ordinary kiosk,i am able to sell greens well because they are in great supply.

I met Miriam while staying with the family of a friend, Mr. Gachoka, who teaches at Mugaa Secondary School. Miriam dropped by Mr. Gachoka’s house on her way to vote in the Kenya’s historic constitutional referendum. Miriam said that she looked forward to a new beginning for the country that would allow its citizens to move beyond the circumstances that had divided them in the past. These conflicts directly affected her family, first when her father was killed in the 1992 land kirmishes that affected her Rift Valley hometown, Bahati, and later when she moved to Rongai with her two children during the 2007 post-election violence.

According to African tradition, the firstborn child in every family is responsible for managing its burdens. Miriam took care of her mother after her father’s death and covered her medical expenses after the old women was involved in a freak accident involving an exploding kerosene lamp. Three months of hospitalization cost Miriam 150,000 shillings, which is roughly three times the average yearly salary for an employed Kenyan citizen. As a single mother (she had divorced her first husband), this was a tall order for Miriam. Despite her efforts, her mother didn’t make it and Miriam was forced to continue raising and educating her two youngest sisters.

After finding a house to rent in Rongai, Miriam met her current husband, who works as a casual laborer in the area. Their family of four grew to seven, not including Miriam’s two sisters. Miriam struggled to put her sisters through secondary school, but they graduated a year ago. Now she is faced with the burden of her oldest girl’s secondary education (7,000 shillings per term) on top of primary school education for the younger children (600 shillings), uniforms, books, pens, paper, etc. The childrens’ school expenses are her top priority, as she can see how much they enjoy their academics and she wants to see them succeed.

Despite her daily struggles, Miriam is almost always smiling and talkative, a trait that serves her well as a businesswoman. Although she has not stayed in the area for long, she has many friends in Rongai who are happy to help her and her family. Mr. Gachoka said that he and some others are organizing a harambee, a traditional Kenyan fundraising event, in order to help her raise the money needed to continue sending her children to school.

Hi, lenders.

Now that the constitution has successfully passed, Kenyans are optimistic that the days of ethnic violence and insecurity surrounding elections are in the past. Everyone was holding their breath before the referendum, wondering if they would see a repeat of the 2007 post-election violence that resulted in 1,300 deaths and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of citizens from their homes. Some residents of the Rift Valley, an area especially affected by this violence, moved out in anticipation of the referendum. Nevertheless, the proceedings were peaceful and the "no" side accepted defeat graciously. Now, people who had been fearing to return to areas like Miriam's will likely live in their original homes again. This year the country is recovering from drought, so people living in Rongai, who primarily rely on farming to earn a living, have money to spend on those foods that they do not grow themselves. Macroeconomically, foreign investors have more confidence in the country and the Kenyan economy should continue to grow as a result.

the referendum results are being released in bits .the YES side is leading with about 4 million votes and the NO side is having 2million votes .We are hoping at last that we shall at have a new constitution.the atmosphere is appealing and the country is generally peaceful.We are greatful to GOD because we are on the floor of the RIFT VALLEY where violence is normally experienced during election time such as the referendum.We as a family are housing a wonderful beatiful lady by the name lauren Rousenbaum.God bless you people for having such a good client relations officer.she is down to earth and very friendly
