About Me

I am a graduate from the University of Ghana. I completed a bachelor degree and with an experience of working with people from diverse social leanings. Having had experience in other areas such as business administration, project management, broadcasting (advertising), marketing, computing and in the social sciences.
I took up marketing as a career and worked with firms on contract bases. It has been a great experience and now doing my small business. I am single and live in Takoradi a suburb in the western region of Ghana. It is one of the cities with Harbor and Ports.

I am a hard working individual, highly discipline, responsible and self-motivated. I always push my earnings back into the business by buying feed; getting another pond and making sure my fingerlings grow to attain the market share price.

My Business

Looking at my background and the community or area that I live in, I decided to take up fish farming and only focus on tilapia production since it has become the favorite of most Ghanaians and foreigners. I have two staff and I bought some fingerlings and feed to commence. I know I have the market but want to expand.
Beginning the startup capital was accrued from my previous jobs. I first decided to look for suppliers and then began the whole project. The tilapia fish is in high demand in most restaurants (both local and foreign). It is mostly not cooked or fried but grilled and garnished with pepper, onions and tomatoes.
Because of this high demand other business women or traders has taken the opportunity to come to my farm to take the stock for suppliers. I need to expand the ponds or get additional pond. The business is very profitable because demand is high. Competition is a key factor and I always look at competitor prices before I decide on pricing. The risk is that if fingerlings are not kept properly they may die and this will cause a downfall in production and supply.
MONTHLY COST: 500gh (it cost 2000gh to start this business, but now I only spend 500gh monthly on feed for the fingerlings)
SALES REVENUE: 1600gh (Monthly I sell 200 fingerlings at 8gh each, which is the current average price. I sell to two main restaurants, and other local food joints, plus the individual homes)
PROFITS: 600gh (after taking out all my production costs I am left with about 600)

Loan Proposal

If I get a loan from zidisha, I will start another tilapia pond in addition to the one I already have. This will take some time. I will have to work harder and add more money to complete it, then introduce more fingerlings into it. After 6-9 months, I can start harvesting from this new pond. The future is bright. I will pay off my loan with proceeds from the first pond until it is done. thank you all for the opportunity
