About Me

I am a hardworking single mom, who has been in the business for the last 2 years after being in employment for the last 5 years. I deal in hairdressing and beauty. I am a focused, honest and highly responsible lady with high business principles and professionalism.

Out of past challenges in life, I always endeavor to remain positive and work smart to attain my both short- and long-term life goals. I am open to learning new ideas and using them to my advantage to succeed in my life. My two lovely kids inspire me to be focused and work hard in my business.

Apart from business, I am an ardent volunteer at a children's home, which I occasionally visit to offer free grooming services and motivate the young ones to lead a positive life. The experiences I share with them are drawn from past experiences. I am also a member of investment clubs, locally known as chamaas, that deal with small-scale traders dealing in table banking. This venture helps small entrepreneurs to save the little money they earn.

My Business

My business niche is basically beauty and more, so I deal with hairdressing. I specialize in braiding, weaving, pedicure, manicure and massaging.

On average my daily sales turnover is Ksh 4,500 ($52). My salon is open six days a week. That translates to Kshs 117,000 ($1, 352). My monthly expenses, including rent, service charges, security, salaries, material costs, electricity and water bills, are on average Ksh 85,000 ($988). Thus, I make an average of Ksh 32,000 ($372). With additional capital, I will be able to purchase a dryer that will help my income increase by 15%. This will enable to pay back the loan, earn more cash and expand my business.

My business is quite profitable. I have managed to build a wide customer base that ranges between middle class and high class income earners. Most of my customers are foreigners who work with diplomatic institutions that are based in the capital city of Nairobi.

My strength is derived from my expertise in hairdressing that I have accumulated over the years. This has helped to have a constant customer flow.

My weakness: My finances have not been able to let me expand my business: the area where operate requires a lot of money to get additional space to expand my business.

My opportunities include a wide target market that lives within the Nairobi West Area and has money to spend.

My threats: There are a number of salons that keep emerging within the business center so as to compete for the available large market. With additional capital I will be able to buy more salon equipment and be able to serve my ever-growing clientele better.

Loan Proposal

Now that Zidisha has helped buy a new dryer, I have been able to get more customers. Hence, I need to create more space by redesigning the Studio to accommodate more client and also for my work place to look attractive. This will help me to be on the market edge and lead to more revenue that will sustain my business and myself. To do this work I require Ksh 15,000( US$172.4). Ksh 10,000(US$115) will go toward a total of 10 liters undercoat, gloss paint and pay for the labor. Also, I will remove the lower cabinets and raise them to create space. This will cost me Ksh,3,000(US$34.5) and lastly the remaining 2,000(US$ 22.9) I will use to pay replace the old floor mart with a new one. I will be to pay comfortable since this second loan is of the same amount with the initial loan.
