About Me

I grew up in Kalkada village in West Alego. I joined a garment making course at Kitale Polytechnic. Upon completion of the course, I worked as casual worker with Raymond’s Fabrics in Eldoret after which I returned home. I later moved to Kisumu and started a tailoring business and at the same time enrolled for a 1 year certificate course in garment design at Ramogi Institute of Technology in Kisumu and obtained a certificate. I later became sick and could no longer continue with the tailoring business.
I started the briquette business in 2014. I look forward to growing the business to a level that I will generate income that is adequate to support my family and make us live an admirable and dignified life.

My Business

Ukuru Briquette Enterprises was started in 2013. The business deals in production and selling of quality charcoal briquettes in Kisumu. The business sells to local hotels and urban households within Kisumu city. The business faces the challenge of low production due to the crude equipment used for production. The business also faces inadequate production space and, at times, wet weather conditions halt the production process. I need to scale up production so as to lower the costs. Scaling up of production requires additional working capital for buying raw materials and equipment. Access to capital is also not easy due to a lack of collateral, a key requirement to get financial support from financial institutions.

Loan Proposal

The loan will be used as capital for buying additional raw materials(charcoal dust, binder and poly sacks for packaging finished products) at a cost of $120. Because of the increased number of units traded, I will be able to serve more customers from which I expect to generate additional income of at least 15,000 a month.

There was no effort to repay the loan in the last 1 1/2 years. Nor did Orina communicate what was going on and why he will not any effort to meet his obligation.
