Am Gerald Wanyama.male aged 26.i started my primary school in 1994 at Marobo primary and completed in the year 2003.i joined Bungoma boys high school in 2004 and completed in 2007.In 2009 i joined moi university main campus and graduated in 2013 with 2nd upper in animal health which was my dream course .
Having been born in a middle level income family, there was a challenge in raising my school fees right from secondary school education.this forced me to start keeping Turkeys and layers chicken which have supported me up to university education and even to date.i also established a tree nursery which have really proved to have a lot of market in my locality.
I keep turkeys for commercial purposes because i discovered that there was no such farmer in my locality.i breed them by myself .currently i have 48 of them .i usually sell each at around 30 dollars.i also buy young turkeys at 5 dollars and keep them for five months after that i sell them making a profit of 25 dollars on each.turkeys are a good source of meat as well pets to most rich people in my locality.i don't incur any other cost since they can feed on available food remains in the compound and this saves on the cost.the profits i get i usually plough back into the business, upkeep as well as saving for the purposes of buying a piece of land
I plan to increase the stock of my birds by buying young turkeys and breed them to maturity.i usually buy the young turkeys at 5 dollars therefore i intent to increase them by 20 that will translate to 68 turkeys.this will increase my profits by 500 dollars at the end of 5 months.this will make me increase my savings ,support my siblings as well as meeting the increasing demand of my market.
