About Me

My name is Georgina Vera Dukeson. I am single with a smart boy of 8 years called Ivan Paa Kwesi Dukeson-Ackah, primary school class 2 .

I'm a seamstress and I started my business a year and a half ago, after having engaged in petty trading.I also have a small piece of land where I have planted vegetables for sale. I have been in the business of selling vegetables for three years and the quail business for six months.

I ventured into the quail business when I was working with a corporate firm as data entry staff. I baked meat pie and sold drinks to my colleagues and also made clothing for them. At this time, I had not considered doing it as a business, so to speak, but I realised that my mum's entrepreneurial ability was in me, so I could not be there without doing anything with my hands, I simply did not have time to waste. But in 2011, the company I was working with collapsed, so I worked with my uncle as a secretary for two years and then resigned to start what I felt was my natural abilities.

After the place I was working was closed down, I could not get employed elsewhere. With this business I am able to meet some of my daily needs and cater for my dear son, who is my source of hope and happiness. My lovely son wants to be a pilot and soldier at the same time, but says he will not shoot. My hobby is always great jokes and laughing about little things.

My Business

My source of income for now is through the clothes I make for my clients and also in network marketing. I want to take this seriously and wean myself from network marketing and concentrate fully in dressmaking, as I enjoy a lot of good will from my mum's friends and and siblings.

The market is huge in Ghana here and I would like to build this for the coming years as the business expands. I sew African print especially and other custom-made clothes to suit a particular person.

I chose this business because it is what I enjoy doing easily as a result of my mum's input to become self-employed.The profit for my business goes into paying my son's school fee and the rest goes to reinvestment in the business. My profit for a day is 30gh cedis, and so in a month I make 900 gh cedis. My cost for a month is 400 gh cedis. This loan will help, if granted, to buy more fabrics and sew a lot more to help save time and also help expand the business later as I make more profit.

Loan Proposal

When the loan is honored, I will buy more fabrics and an additional sewing machine. An additional sewing machine will help meet customer targets and satisfy them. This will help me sew more and also help me to bid for some medium contracts that fall within my range, thereby increasing my profit, which will help me take care of my only son's education and upkeep. Also I will sew already-made African clothes with different sizes, so customers can also pick them up. Below are the items to purchase:

1. Additional industrial sewing machine - $240
2. Fabrics - $60

I expect an 15% increase in my profit.
