About Me

My names are Mercy Mugure Kimani. I'm married and have 3 children. I was born in Kiambu district in the Kiambu county which was in the former Central province. This is about 50 miles from Nairobi.

I went for early education near my rural home, which is just a walking distance and this was so good as I did not get tired going to school, unlike my counterparts.

Later I went to a school in Nairobi, Uthiru Girls high school, and after my form 4 exams, I joined a college in Nairobi to do my study in Front Office & Housekeeping.

I got married in the year 2010 and relocated to my current township of Nakuru which is 130 miles south of Nairobi.

My Business

I have been practising horticulture with my 5th loan and am happy to let you know that it was a wise decision.

Farming is not only a passion that I have, but the challenges and the ability to oversee crops from seeds to maturity and finally selling them and earning brings lots of excitement.

The farming I was doing was overhead irrigation which has it's own shortcomings, but on the other hand the profits are big. Within the first 6 months, I had started realizing profits upto 80% more.

This is the reason I want to move to a more intesified Greenhouse farming which is more productive and harvest are bigger hence the projected income will definitely double in the next half year.

Loan Proposal

Hallo Zidisha members and all the entire management team. I am apply for the loan for an inventory for my clothing shop and saloon. I started this business about a year ago but I have been having lots of challenges in expanding due to the limited resources at my disposal.

I specifically plan to order more shoes and school bags which are in high demand as most customers cannot access unless they go to town which is a little far. I will also add a few items for the saloon and posters for the display of new type of hair styles for my clients.

I will also add more clothing for women and some cosmetics as well.

The loan break down is:-

Shoes - $30
School bags - $20
Ladies clothes - $50
Saloon accesories - $20
Posters for the saloon - $10
Other expenses - $18

I am a hard working lady and am sure that my work will grow and I will be able to assist my family in things like school fees, buying food and saving for expansion.

With this loan, am sure that my business will expand by about 50% and I will therefore repay my loans without any difficulty and my family will prosper.

My immediate community will also have commodities brought closer to them.

Last but not least, I want to appeal to all Zidisha lenders and am certain this will be a start of a long relationship with this community!
