About Me

ABOUT MYSELF
My name is nelson Ahaikonu from the Volta Region of Ghana. I reside in Madina, a suburb of Accra the cpaital of Ghana and it has a convergent of all the tribes making it a beautiful atmosphere to enjoy the differences in the variouse ethnic groupings. The indigenes of The Greater Accra are called the The Ga's and they are predominantly Fishermen, they are very kind people and have a unique dance call Kpanlogo which is perculiear to tribe only. I have a degree in Banking and Finance from the Methodist University College. I am currently a poultry farmer and my hobbies include listening to news and surfing the internet for current trend in marketing and business strategic application from leading mentors (wealthy) for my business development and enjoy singing. My interest grew for this as a result of what I saw happen in the Military Barracks from my Dad, where every soldier was encourage to have his backyard farming and it was a beautiful sight to behold when you visit the farm. Feeling unfulfilled in my previous work propel me to actually start this couple with a business plan competition I partook in and place 5th was really a turning point in my life. The money from the operation goes into purchasing inputs like day old chicks, feed, medicines are just a few of what I buy to keep the business running smoothly.

My Business

ABOUT MY BUSINESS
Layer production for eggs is what I do as the demand for eggs is huge from the table top food vendor to the restaurant are all demanding eggs for various delicacies. During festive season I do few Broilers for meat. The company was initially started as a hobby. Considering the prospects of the business and industry as a whole, which was informed by the persistent and continuous growth in demand for poultry products, Ghana poultry imports have more than tripled in the past few years as Ghana's domestic poultry sector continues to decline and can only supply around 10 percent of poultry demand in the country. This has actually made the business enjoy fair advantage. The non-existence of competition in operating jurisdiction is an added strength to my operations. The major threat of business in this venture has to do with rapid increases in prices of its inputs especially feed and medication/vaccines. The possible outbreak of disease in the poultry house is another threat. Apart from my product being wholesome, flexible credit policy is also what keeps my customers to me, as I have daily, weekly and monthly policy. I seek to expand my production capacity and increase output by 60% next year and so it is imperative to keep the business on sound footing as well as my customer base hence the need for the Loan. My typical cost is based on the feed which $650 and other overhead cost $300 . Christmas is acually the period i make profit over and above 100%,It actually takes 6 months for the birds to start laying eggs so production must start ahead of time and so i have to buy Day old chicks , feed , and medication especially must be bought to start the production process. The profit from my business basically goes into reinvestment in growing the business and helping few friends who are in financial crises. I will be supporting my partially adopted daughter who still lives with father but have helped her complete her secondary education awaitint to further her educationto the tertiary level from my profit as i have a small savings for her in that direction.

Loan Proposal

Th is laon when honoured will basically be used to buy feed for the poultry as they are at the laying stage so adequate and timely feeding should be adhere to strictly to make best right eggs, Also veterinary services will be paid for and fuel for the generator and other miscellanous.
Feed for layers= $650
Veterinary service=$50
Fuel for generator=$100
New Feeders=$50
miscellanous=$100
Upon ingecting this money into the business, it will help me maintain the correct ration and be ready for any eventualities and make more profit. The profit from this will also her me support my partially adopted daughter to further her tertiary eduaction. i expect my profit to inrease by 75% averagely.

    Hi Lenders,
I want to say a very big thank you to you all., you support has enable m e stay in business as The latther part of 2014 was a very difficult year but i was able to sail through and kept the business going due to the depreciation of the cedi and the upward surge of crude oil that affected my budget. But on the whole business was good. I have finishing paying my loan and looking forward to another one as the economic situation is very stable now , am looking for to go higher this year.

    Dear Lenders,

I had the pleasure of visiting Nelson’s home last week in Madina, a quiet suburb in northern Accra. Nelson has been a Zidisha borrower since May of 2014 and was eager to meet me when I reached out to him – he had been helping a friend with her application just the other night and quickly arranged a group of entrepreneurial and interested prospective borrowers.

It was the low interest rate that drew Nelson to the Zidisha platform initially but he is especially impressed with sincerity of the organization – that Zidisha and its lenders are truly committed to helping borrowers and treating them with respect, a refreshing departure from the reality of many alternative options for loans and funding. The flexibility and understanding of lenders has enabled him to weather difficulties and grow his business.

After our meeting, I asked if he could recommend a restaurant nearby. But rather than send me off on my own, Nelson and Gina accompanied me to one of their favorite lunch spots to try a “real Ghanaian meal” of a light starter soup, okro stew with crab, and banku. Banku is a thick dough made from corn and cassava and originating from Nelson’s home in the Volta. Although I was unable to eat the meal with anything resembling grace, it was delicious and definitely not my last encounter with banku.

Nelson was actually the first Zidisha borrower I met in Ghana, for which I am so grateful. He is passionate about the organization’s mission and the opportunities it provides. And, already having helped friends apply, propose loans, and navigate the Zidisha website, I am very excited to say that he is working through the application to be a Volunteer Mentor! I have the utmost confidence that his presence at Zidisha will be incredibly beneficial and I know that he appreciates your continued support. I was unable to visit his business last week, as it is located in a different region of the city, but I hope to pop in for a visit soon!

    Hello Wonderful lenders and zidisha,
Happy new to you all. I think we started the year pretty well and believe business will be better this year. We started this year having a pretty stable currency against the dolla and have crude oil falling to a low as $50. Last year i had some challenges but looking at the indicators i am extremely happy. Thanks once again and lets all enjoy 2015

Due to the long delay from 14th of August up until 17th of october before my loan was process and sent to me, it has distorted my growth strategy and greatly affected the chicks i purchase couple with depreciating of the cedi and so i need to take time and adjust so i can coup with the situation on the farm. The cedi is stablizing but have to be sure if it is going to remain stable or not. my profit margin has reduce so the cost of imput and the little profit has to properly plan to keep production process smoothly. thank you.
