About Me

My name is Felix Makau and I was born in Machakos County on the Eastern side of Kenya. I was born in a rural area where the main occupation is subsistence farming. My parents like everybody else in the area were farmers as well as pastoralists.

I went to school for my primary and then secondary education. I later relocated to Mombasa to pursue a course in Electrical installation but I quit after a few months because my parents could not afford the college fee. With the little knowledge that I acquired in college, I was able to fix small electrical problems in people’s homes and in the process I would make some little money for my upkeep.

I later got a job at a small store for selling electrical items where I worked for two years. Using my savings I started my own store where I sell electrical accessories.
I am married with a two year old child.

My Business

I started this business four years ago. I normally sell common domestic electrical items such as wall sockets, ceiling fans, cables etc. I decided to venture into this area since it is my line of training and I also learned a lot from my previous employer.

I normally get my stock from suppliers and then retail them from my shop. I make a net profit of about $300 per month. My family relies entirely on this business for their sustenance. I am hoping to one day open a bigger store so that I can supply bigger clients.

Loan Proposal

With my second loan, I plan to buy a stock of assorted wiring cables at a cost of 100USD. This is advised by the high demand of these cables due to construction boom currently happening in our city of Mombasa.

I will use another 100 USD to buy a stock of energy saving bulbs and fluorescent bulbs which have proved to be fast moving as well. I will use the balance of about 50 USD for marketing to help me cope with stiff competition from other players.

I am optimistic that this will make a big difference in my profitability and I am hoping to see an increase of about 20% in sales volumes after the injection of this cash into my business.

Felix is still struggling but he is willing to pay as soon as he finds a source of income - hopefully early next year.

Felix closed down his business due to lack of funds. He has promised to start repaying his loan once he starts another business. Thank you for your patience.

I phoned Felix today at 4.18pm. He says his supplies were stuck for some time and has caused his delay in repayments. He says he will keep repaying till he is up to date.

    Thanks.

Dear lenders, I have just completed repaying my first loan at Zidisha. What a relief! I am glad I have maintained a 100% record and I hope to keep it that way even in my next loan.

The loan was a big boost to my business because I was able to increase my stock and I have been putting the profit I have making back to the business. The multiplier effect is just amazing.

My main challenge now is competition but with your support, I believe I have an edge over them.

Thank you lenders, I can now exhale! Special thanks to Hope2012 for your incredible support. I am on a slow internet connection but I will have a look at the alison link once the connection improves. It seems I am going to reap lots of benefits from knowing you.

Hi Felix this loan is funding very slowly, but I don't know why. Have you tried joining the forum and chatting to people there?

Thanks Hope for your concern. I was informed that it is against the forum rules to promote one's loan there. I remain optimistic and I am quite happy with the progress in the last few hours.

Oh sorry I didn't know that. Although I don't want to annoy them It would be a shame for you to miss out. Let us hope someone else jumps in and contributes, as I am a bit overextended at the moment. You are right, there is still 3 days to go. If no progress in 2 days time I might mention you myself... They might be ok with a lender showing concern. Actually I should check the rules on whether they are ok with lenders promoting loans.

Thanks Jan73, dlpringle and Hope2012 for your timely contributions. I hope other lenders will chip in something before time expires.
