I am Grace Addo, a young and visionary lady who hails from the eastern region of Ghana. Having been brought up singlehandedly by my mother alongside six others, life has not been easy. By the grace of God and perseverance, I successfully went through basic education, from there to Wesley Girls' High School and then to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where I obtained a degree in SVC Land Economy.
Now, after the mandatory one-year national service was over and all my efforts at securing employment proved futile, I decided to take on my mom's textile trade, which enabled her to support the family. This wasn't easy, because my society is one where it is perceived that every one who has been to school should only work in the office and nothing else. However, I braced myself up to the task, and today all those who opposed me look at me with admiration.
I am quite fond of kids and so I have been actively involved in the children ministry of my church. I am an avid reader and would soon learn swimming to help me wind down over the weekends.
I buy and sell Ghana textile prints (GTP), which is a highly-regarded traditional brand of fabric that we love. There are many reasons for which people demand or patronize my products. Basically, we have three ranges of GTP; namely, the safoa, nustyle and adepa, with the prices of the bales going for $1300, $1700 and $2300, respectively. GTP cloth is bought for marriage rites, funerals, naming ceremonies, institutional uniforms, which are normally worn on Fridays, and a host of others.
When offered this loan, I am going to buy a bale of the nustyle range of the Ghana Textiles Print ( GTP )products which goes for $1200. I have decided on trading in this category because they are now invoke for the fresh junior high and senior high school graduates who are home now and are awaiting their examination results. These youngsters are more into the Nustyles because they are more fanciful as they have fantastic designs in vibrant colours. So I believe if I am able to secure a bale, I would be in a better position to satisfy their demands and increase my sales and profit margins.
One often finds them combining these lovely fabrics with some pieces of other materials like chiffon, plain woodin, satin and laces of different kinds.
