About Me
I am 25 years old, single. I finished high school with a very good grade but could not join university because of finances. So I have been working in the informal plaiting hair within my community for the last two years. Life here has been hard especially raising money to make ends meet. I started plaiting after I was trained by a friend of mine and since then I have become a professional. The unique thing about my culture is that females are not allowed to inherit so you have to fend for yourself. My biggest dream is to have a family which does not lack anything, especially food and good education. I love soccer and basketball and I am an ardent fan of business documentaries.
My Business
I long to provide many services like hair-cutting and styling. This includes everything from styles created with a blow dryer, curling iron or hand scrunching to tried-and-true roller/dryer sets for the mature clientele. Popular color services include highlighting, low lighting, glazing, corrective coloring, dimensional special effects, and hair and scalp treatments. Texture services include permanent waves, partial or spot perms, spiral perms and anti-curl treatments. Finally, special occasion hair styling for events like proms and weddings, round out the typical hair services menu. Braiding, which has made a strong comeback in many parts of the community, falls into a category of its own. I chose this kind of business because women and girls here want to look beautiful. My typical weekly profit is $90, this profit helps to pay my bills like rent, food and other needs.
