About Me
Hi, I was brought up in a loving family in the informal settlements of Kibera. I attended Kibera Primary School (Class of 1992). I proceeded to Siaya County for my O levels and then came back to the City of Nairobi to seek something to do with my life. I was unable to proceed to college majorly due to lack of finances on the part of my parents. Being the eldest son I had to quickly think of helping dad take care of my younger siblings. As a result I did not have the luxury of choice, I did whatever came my way first. And so my first job was as a dishwasher in a restaurant along Banda Street in Nairobi. I left that after two years when a relative offered to take me to college to do computer packages, this never materialized. However, God led me into the hands of a wonderful lady who had a Physiotherapy Clinic who took me in and trained me on all the basics of office work. That is how I ended up working for her clinic and later to her husbands Clinic where I am to date.
In the course of my work, my boss trusted me and he was able to hand over the day today running of the clinic in my hands save for the technical and medical bit. I met Fred Mori here when he came to do some maintenance works and we had rapport with each other. He was into the supply of stationery and other computer/printer consumables. We teamed up to work together besides my 8 - 5 job. He (Fred) had the connections with suppliers and clients where as I had the time (my job also entailed running errands for my boss) and connections too.
Fred being a young man just like I am and hailing from the same County, we shared so much in common. The circumstances around our lives made us to really trust each other.
I have two children, Perez (5)and Abby (22 months. Fred has one daughter. Perez enjoy watching Wild Animal Documentaries and should he desire to pursue a career in that direction I will fully support him. I always see him as a Photo Journalist with a bias towards Wildlife Conservation.
I enjoy spending time with my family and making friends. And Yes I believe God has a plan for each person under this planet. Others are grand and others might not be so grand but equally very important.
My Business
I have with Zidisha help applied and repaid my loans successfully twice. I wish to open a juice parlor. A lot of the juices sold at the supermarkets are artificial and we hope to venture into a fresh juice business in small scale and hopefully watch it grow. Some of the items that we shall need include blenders, disposable cups and straws, a few plastic seats and tables for a start. This venture will go along way in supplementing our household income.
There are many fruits that are available at our local market and the costs are low. eg a cluster of four mangoes is sold at Kshs. 50. Those mangoes when peeled and blended can provide 500mls of juice. A 250mls of juice is sold at Kshs. 50. That makes an extra Kshs. 50. If we are able to make more then we should be able to make a good profit.
Loan Proposal
I wish to open a juice parlour. I intend to buy three blenders a few plastic chairs and a table together with other accessories. Fruits are readily available at our markets and people seem to prefer fresh fruits as compared to at the artificial ones that are found at the supermarkets.
A quick example a bunch of mango fruits goes for Ksh. 50. When blended the same bunch can produce around 750mls of juice. We can then sell 250mls for Kshs. 50. That means that the extra 500ml can be sold for profit. A plastic chair can cost up to Ksh. 2,000 bob.
