About Me

My name is Opiyo Monica, I am the second born in a family of 8 children. I was born in a village and grew in the village.I attended a Lango primary school and proceeded to Sega secondary school where I did my o-levels. After completing secondary education I did not have money to pay for my college fees. I did not want to get married because I was very young and I wanted to join college.
My thirst and desire for education drove me into doing farming to try and raise college fees. I did not do very well in the first season because I had no knowledge about the market trends,I produced only to release my products to market when there was glut. I still managed to get some little profit. I talked to neighbor who was a successful farmer ,she advised me and I also attended seminar that was sensitizing youths about farming.Equipped with the knowledge about production and marketing,I was set to go. I have since expanded my farm to half an acre and plant assorted high value horticulture.
I love reading novels, visiting new places and visiting established farms to learn more about farming.

My Business

I plant assorted horticulture in my farm.eg traditional African vegetables, water melon, tomatoes and cucumber .I know the market trend for all crops and know when to plant to get premium prices.
I practice market led production and my crops always get to the market when there is scarcity and hence fetch good prices. The demand is high due to high populations and small farms. I planning to increase my farm in future to tap the available opportunities.
I choose farming business because it required small capital to start and it had the opportunities for growth.
I spend $120 as production cost on average but it depepnds with the plant in question. my average montly revenues is $300.
I spend the money by supporting my family, paying my college fees and reinvesting in the business.

Loan Proposal

Dear lenders,I have always dreamt of buyin a knapsack sprayer for my farm,to help me spray and get better quality produce as well as reduce waste and risk of pesticides using the broom. I currently use broom to spray my crops and it leads to wastage as well as health hazard. I will buy the knapsack sprayer at cost of $70. please support me. Thank you in advance.
