About Me

My name is Ruth Obara from Angorom ,Teso south Busia County. I am the only child in our family and my parents passed on in a greasily road accident while I was still young,I was later adopted by one my aunts.I went to secondary school and later proceeded to Egerton University last year.
This year i am supposed to proceed to second year of study but due to financial constraints I have differed my studies for one year and started farming to raise my fees.
From my commercial farming I have been able to pay my university fees for first year studies.I have also been able to to take care of my bills.
During my free time a read motivational books which have been a great pillar in my life.I also love singing and dancing.Occasionally I go for boat riding.
I am looking forward to joining Zidisha since i believe i will be able to expand my farm get more revenues and go back to school.I will also be able to save some money to start small business while in college to sustain my bills ,save for fees and service my loan.

My Business

My name is Ruth Obara,I come from Angorom village Teso south Busia County, in western Kenya .I am a small commercial farmer, engaging in traditional African vegetables and exotic vegetables. I provide fresh, and high quality vegetables to my clients.
I have about 1 acre of land but currently I only utilize quarter of the land, since I don’t have the resource for expansion. I grow traditional African vegetables and sell it to fellow villagers and wholesalers who come to my farm. The business is profitable because the vegetables grow very fast and that means more money for me. I rarely use fertilizer and that has greatly increased my revenues, since I cut on the cost of production.
My business does not really face any great threat since the vegetables are rarely attacked by diseases and pests, the demand is equally high, however occasionally thieves steal my vegetables and that always reduce my revenue.
I spend $30 as production costs each month, (buying seeds and labor) .My monthly revenue is $180 and so in a good month I make a profit of $150.
I intend to service my loan using money I earn from my business. I am looking forward to expand my business so that I can get maximum revenues from my farm and employ a farm hand to take of it while I am in college.
Thank you for visiting my profile
