About Me

I was raised by a single mother who educated me through some hardship. I eventually completed my high school education and enrolled for a diploma in Information Technology at JKUAT.

After my education and with long months of searching for employment, I decided to start rearing rabbits and local Kienyeji chicken. I started rearing 2 agricultural rabbits and five Kienyeji chicken after undergoing a training seminar at the Ministry of Livestock. After a few months, my stock began increasing and in two years, I was farming a stock of 150 rabbits and 100 local Kienyeji chicken.

I come from the western part of my country where people only believe in getting employment and discourage self-employment. With my current livestock, I am able to sustain my family's needs and show how life can also be built from livestock keeping.

Currently I am married and I am blessed with a son. My hobby is watching documentaries, especially on farming techniques, and that is where I also get motivated. I also enjoy sports.

My Business

In my farming project, I produce and sell mature rabbits at a cost of 2,000 Ksh. and above, rabbit weaners at a cost of 800 Ksh., and rabbit manure at a cost of 50 Ksh. to local farmers. Chicken market goes at 1,500 Ksh. for cocks and 800 to 1,000 Ksh. for hens. A tray of eggs costs between 300 to 350 Ksh., whereas a one-month chick generates 200 Ksh. So now there if the production of food in many peoples homes.

Generally I keep rabbits and local chicken together with the ken-bro breed. My intention is to add to my stock of the layer chickens so as to increase the production of eggs. Out of the research that I have been able to carry out, there is a real need for chicken eggs within my own locality, and I want to sustain the market by at least rearing 600 layer chickens within the next six months.

Loan Proposal

I intend to buy 200 layer chicks, which will cost USD $210 since a chick goes at a cost of USD $1.05. I will also buy three 50 kg bags of chick mash [feed] at a cost of USD $75, where one bag costs USD $25. I will buy three vaccines at a cost of USD $8; for this we have Newcastle, Gumboro, fowl pox and vitamins.

The total expenditure will be USD $293.

The benefits of the project will be produce eggs (6 and 1/2 trays of eggs a day) and this will be after a period of five months. The eggs will generate a total of USD $504 a month, so the profit made will be USD $250.

At my previous loan, I was able to purchase 200 chicks for my stock, as well as to buy more drinkers and feeders for the stock.
I have increased the current stock from 100 hens to a total of 300 chicken. With this number I will be able to reap more and better returns.
With the current stock, I am sure that after two months, I shall be able to make a profit of KES. 50000 (USD 500).
With my farm succeeding, I will be able to cater for my child's education together with his needs, and also care for my family.
I wish to thank all my lenders for the support that you have offered to me, thank you very much and be blessed.

At my previous loan, I was able to buy 200 layers chicks and more feeding troughs and drinkers so as to accommodate the increase number of poultry for my farm.
I have been able to have a total of 300 layers chicken all together, and at this time, I am waiting for the new breed to mature and start laying eggs for my business growth in terms of sales.
I know that when I shall start making daily sales on eggs, I will be able to make a monthly profit of about KES. 50,000 (USD 500). This is a very big achievement for me and by this, I will be able to cater for my child's education and also his needs.
I hope for the best in the near future.
    Thank you.
